My family Thanksgiving lunch was today. I'm still full. I'm thankful for the wonderful time we got to spend together. I loved being in the kitchen with not only my mom, but my brother. Abigail brought her dishes already prepared.
When we were sitting around the table Abigail shared her fiasco cake making experience. That's a blog post for another day, but I will share it soon. My entire family laughed until we cried and our sides hurt.
The food Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry salad, broccoli casserole, sweet potatoes, corn casserole, gravy, deviled eggs, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, cherry pie and new to the menu this year pound cake. It was a bounty indeed. It used to be less complicated, but as we've added family members we've added "their" dishes.
I'm ever so Thankful for the time that my family can be ALL together and share a meal together. My brother will be working on Thanksgiving. He's in the restaurant business and he'll be working for those who just don't want to cook themselves, my daughter is a paramedic and people have medical emergencies every day... including holidays. She'll be helping those folks. Donald is off, but being in law enforcement/public safety he's missed lots of holidays with us because he had to be at work.
Years ago there was a day that I had to choose to be at the hospital for my mom's surgery or be at my daughter's graduation. I couldn't be at one with Donald being at the other because although he asked for the day off, it was not granted. I picked mom's surgery and Abigail understood. It still nags at me.
So I never take the time that my family gets to actually be together... ALL of us for granted. It truly is a blessing that I am thankful for every time it happens. Tomorrow I hope you will all enjoy that kind of time with your family. Meaningful time.
