A friend of mine, Shelley McPherson, was invited to have breakfast with the Governor of Colorado Bill Ritter. Shelley McPherson, her partner Erik and their company American Wiping Rags, Inc have been getting much publicity. I decided to interview Shelley and share it with my blog followers.
..............................................................
Shelley why did you get to meet Governor Bill Ritter?
Director Caroline Parra with SBDC awarded American Wiping Rags, Inc. for 2008 Small Business Client of the Year. Shelley McPherson and Erik Eggleston are graduates from the Colorado Leading Edge Course. American Wiping Rags is also an example for the small business owner through the program.
What did you and the Governor talk about?
The roundtable discussion was on Colorado economic development. How to improve and grow your business to the next level. Where can you recieve information and the resources avaliable. Second topic was doing business with the Government. How to keep business and contracts here in Colorado, instead of going outside the State. Healthcare was the last topic. How hard it is to have insurance coverage for the small business owner, and for their employee's. Why is it so much and why does it keep getting more expensive.
Did you learn anything special from Governor Ritter?
I learned he is a kind, and humble Governor who truly cares. I did learn that he worked hard all his life to get where he is today. Living in a farming community he understands about the small guy.
Were you encouraged about the Governor and the State of Colorado after this meeting? Why?
I watch him during the breakfast when others were talking and he was listening and giving his suggestions on his future plans as Governor. So we will see how it goes, I'm hoping for the best.
Why not?
Well, politicians have always had a bad wrap. I know I will pay more attention when I hear Governor Ritter in the news and in the media. Especially when topics we disscused at the roundtable come up and he follows through.
