The Big Thank You for Day 10: My Sister Joan's Wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner!

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH Real Estate AB95346

Most  years, I've hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at my house for nearby family and a few friends thrown in. This year, when my sister Joan suggested she host the Thanksgiving dinner, I was a little bit dubious.

You see, Joan is a serious vegetarian.  And I'm not talking about one of those vegetarians who take Thanksgiving and Christmas off.  She does not eat animals products, period. In spite of this, she

In spite of this, she put together a wonderful holiday dinner with turkey for the carnivores at her table.

When she told me her plans for twice baked sweet potatoes, complete with soy cheese and cream cheese that sounded a little, well, awful.  But it wasn't.  Everything tasted just delicious.

And the great thing is that I didn't have to grocery shop (except for the salad) or cook - just eat a lot of turkey and other delicious vegetarian fare!

Thank you, Joan!

I didn't have to cook this year either Patricia. We are having our meal tomorrow at Walt's son's house.

Sybil, my brother in the other Washington is doing the same thing!  His daughter had to do inlaws today, and my brother does a huge production, and decided to wait a day.  I'm almost tempted to fly out there for it!  He's an amazing cook.

Jeff, the vegetarian twice baked potatoes were totally awesome, and when Joan shared the ingrediants, I was a little suspicious!

You made it better for coming out, Pat! And that dill weed in the salad was brilliant.

It sound's like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Patricia!  I did the cooking at my house, and cooked for three days.  I'm exhausted!  I would be grateful if I had a sister or other family member to do it next year.

We have a couple vegetarians in our family, but they mainly eat side dishes.  They aren't made any special way.

Will, it's not just the bird!  All the side dishes are a lot of work, too!

Lottie, it's funny, because I always think that going meatless has to taste funky, but Joan's cooking is pretty amazing.  It's like she has to make what she serves taste wonderful.

Chris Ann, when I cook for real vegetarians, I'm pretty careful about not having any animal products - like butter and some seasonings that contain chicken broth.
