One our favorite Duomos is in Milan.  It is the Cathedral dedicated to St. Mary of the Nativity.  This magnificent edifice took 600 years to complete.  It is an example of Italian Gothic architecture.  It is considered a Renaissance masterwork.

The construction began in 1386 and Leonardo da Vinci worked on a model for the dome of the cathedral in 1488, and was hired as a consulting engineer.  This photo was taken as the sun was beginning to set.  We loved the golden glow of that the sun cast on the marble facade.

Enjoy your weekend

Joe Pryor if you like opera or ballet, I would suggest getting tickets for a performance at La Scala.  They spent 5 years rehabbing it and updating the stage, etc, and we loved being there and seeing "The Marriage of Figaro.:  We also have seen ballet performances which were outstanding  The accoustics are superb.  A

The elaborate design of that cathedral, is a testament to building with permanence in mind.  It has stood all these years, and god willing, will continue on for many more!

It's architecture like this I wish I could fit inside a drone and see it from above and every side too! Isn't it lovely! There is so much attention to detail and can you imagine what it costs to maintain? It's worth every penny!

Beautiful!  Imagine a construction project that took 600 years! It reminds us how much longer Europe's history than ours.

Hi Ron & Alexandra - That's one of our favorites as well, but it's kind of hard to find a duomo in Italy that isn't. Thanks for another contest entry!
