The Christmas Season is upon us and there are many fun Christmas Events for the whole family in Summerville this year!

Gingerbread Creation Contest: The Gingerbread Creation Contest has become a favorite for those participating and those wandering around and looking at them! The time to create a gingerbread house has passed, but the Sugary creations are on display throughout Historic Downtown Summerville in November & December.

The Living Christmas Story

When: December 1-3, 6:30-9pm

Where: Historic Downtown Summerville, Bethany UMC

About: This is down the street from my home, this is an event we did every year with the children. It is like you stepped back in time to the town of Bethlehem.  Learn More about the The Living Christmas Story.

A Christmas Carol Walking Tour with Tim Lowry

When: December 21,2016

Where: Historic Downtown Summerville

About: Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” is one of the staples of the Christmas season and now you can hear the Summerville local storyteller, Tim Lowry retell it as you walk around Historic Downtown Summerville with Lowry, Ebeneezer Scrooge and Christmas Cheer.

Christmas Tree Lighting

When: Tuesday, Dec. 6,2016 5-7:30pm

Where: Hutchinson Square, Downtown Summerville

About: The annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Hutchinson Square will be on Tuesday, December 6th at 7pm. Join the Mayor of the Town of Summerville as he lights up Town Square in Historic Downtown Summerville. Prior to the lighting, musical entertainment, food vendors, and few kids activities and free cookies will be available starting at 5:00 pm. This event is hosted by the Flowertown Garden Club.

 

Christmas Parade of Boats

When: Dec 10 ,2016 5- 8pm

Where: Downtown Charleston

About: If you are already downtown on December 10th, make your way over to the harbor to see the fantastic display of decorated boats floating through the water. It is a spectacular show that will make you feel like a little kid looking at Christmas lights! If you aren’t downtown, maybe you should go! Learn More about the Parade of Boats.

Summerville Christmas Parade

When: December 11, 2016 2pm

Where: Downtown Summerville

About: Come have fun and celebrate the Christmas Season with this fun family event. Summerville Schools, businesses and organizations all are encouraged to participate and support the community. Come join the town! 

Holiday Festival of Lights:

When: November 11,2016-January 1,2017, starts at 5:30pm.

Where: James Island County Park

About: I've written about my experiences and tips for the Festival of Lights in previous years, and I stand by them! If you have children in your life, or even if you don't, try to get out and see this display! The light show is over three miles long (you drive in your car) and then you can park and walk through beautiful light displays, roast marshmallows, sip hot cocoa and ride the train!   More about the Festival of Lights.

Hi Foster - I think seeing a Christmas display of boats would be unique.  We don't see that in our northern climate.
