Wordless Wednesday- Shoes

When we began our beach walks I became fascinated by the things that were left on the beach.  What really got my attention were shoes, and in particular the oft seen one lonely shoe left behind.

With all of the hustle and bustle that occurs when trying to pack up your car after a day at the beach, it’s understandable that a towel or toy might be left behind.

But shoes!?!

single shoes

Do you know how hot sand is the further you get from the water!?

And don’t forget the sidewalks!

Ouch!

I think of the poor parent who is all the way home when they discover that there is only one cute little flip flop in the car.

And what happens to that shoe?  Is it thrown away?

Anyway, I feel sad for the lonely little shoe that is left behind.  Perhaps it will mate with another shoe and together form a new little shoe family.

Between saying and doing, many a pair of shoes is worn out. Iris Murdoch

Kathy,

Love your post on shoes.  One time in Maui's Wailea side (non-touristy at the time) we saw a pair of green slides neatly placed on the path.  I wondered why someone left them there, as they were lovely.  On the way back, they still were there, and I still wonder who left them there?  A

PS, no shoes left on our beach, an occasional plastic toy or plastic shovel.  A

Kathy, I've actually seen tennis shoes left behind at the park. Guess the kids are excited about the games and leave a shoe behind.

Nick & Trudy Vandekar I have a feeling that adult libation may be the reason for some of the adult shoes.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® one piece of advice...get them on sale!!!

Ron and Alexandra Seigel oh we've seen nice pairs of shoes left behind.  We also see the plastic toys and lots of broken beach umbrellas.

Good Morning, Kathy!

I think a trail of shoes on the beach is a good indication that nobody wants to leave just their footprints in the sand.

Your photo reminds me of a tree I saw in California once where some artist made a tree and creatively crafted all the lost shoes on the tree branches. It was quite beautiful but so long ago, I can't remember where I saw it.

Lone, lost shoes always baffle me...particularly when I see them in the middle of a street.

I see shoes on the side of the road and wonder how did that happen. Just think of all the socks out there that lose their mates. The funny thing is most never show up.

Oh my - I get the hot issue. If one loses a shoe here in 115 heat they'd be in a heap of hurt. Ouch!  The other day while out shopping  there was a Mom putting her baby into a car seat. I asked her if she'd like me to return her cart.  She was so grateful....but guess what?  The little guys shoe was left in the cart but we discovered it before she left!!

Kathy,

I too do not understand shoes especially as you say on hot sand.....I have lost a pair of shoes but that was because the tide came in and the sand was not hot it was December many years ago on Galveston Island.

Hi Kathy Streib , I can understand how the little ones can get tired at the beach and fall asleep, causing the parent to carry them to the car, losing a shoe on the way. I can't imagine not knowing when walking on that hot sand.
