Solanco musicians will play a significant role in the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Quarryville. The event will be held on Friday December 2, from 6 to 8 PM in the Towns Edge Shopping Center. All Community members are invited to attend the outdoor event, which is hosted free of charge by the Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.
The event will feature performances by the Solanco High School Chorale, the High School Brass Ensemble, and the Smith Middle School Singers. In addition to traditional Christmas carols the vocal group will perform songs about Hanukkah, holiday shopping, and greetings of the season. The River Hills Foxhounds, which promotes the sport of fox hunting are also scheduled to appear.
There will be hot chocolate, coffee, and popcorn provided by the Chamber of Commerce at no cost to attendees. Youngsters will receive candy canes, and may participate in decorating ornaments, and writing letters to Santa Claus.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be chauffeured to the the ceremony by the Quarryville Fire Department. They are expected to arrive around 7:30 PM and will greet children and adults. They are also expected to light the Christmas Tree.
Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Chamber to donate to the Solanco Neighborhood Ministries Food Bank.
