This little store in Norcia, Umbria promised "the bestest" chocolate (the sign above the door) in the world. On tthe Monday, we arrived it was supposed to be open at 2PM. At 2PM, we were standing in front waiting along with a few others. No one showed up to open the store. The same story on Tuesday morning at opening time and in the afternoon.
Our quest for chocolate continued, we checked the other stores in town. No one else carried a single piece of chocolate. They carried black and white truffles (the ones found at the base of trees in the ground) and all types of sausages and hams. They fed us mouth watering samples, and assured us we could order on line and have it sent to California!
We left Wednesday morning having abandoned all hope of tasting the "bestest" chocolate in the world. We did taste the "bestest" everything else that Umbria had to offer, cheeses, charcuterie (cold cooked meats), and Sagrantino wine...
Happy Thursday!
