What we love about Rome is the convergence of style in the architecture. In our opinion, you have to walk the streets to feel the history that is part and parcel of this great city. Cobblestone streets from ancient Rome are perfectly incorporated into the architecture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The photo above is of a section of the Piazza di Popolo (people's square) built in the Middle Ages.
Here is view of the Piazza. You can see the cobblestones lining the piazza and most of the streets in Rome's center. The obelisk pictured below was part of the spoils of war in Egypt.
This obelisk was built by Ramses II Pharaoh of Egypt.
