I Finally Took the Plunge in Kailua-Kona

By

One of the perks at my house in Hawaii is the fact I get to use my tenant's Netflix. Although, I have probably changed their profile in such a way that they will be offered shows they deem highly offensive. They do some kind of missionary work, converting people to Christianity. I've been watching their Amazon stream, too, and binge-watched a bunch of episodes of Good Girls Revolt. It's certainly no Mad Men quality, and there are many things that annoy me about the show,  but it's still entertaining.

A thing that stands out from that show is that 20-year-olds should not play 20-year-olds because they aren't old enough yet. You can read more about my adventures in Hawaii in my personal blog at this link: Two Syllables I Thought I Would Never Say is Costco.

Welcome to Costco!  I have the executive membership too, I get 5% back or something like that.  I've known a few people that work there, they ONLY promote from within and treat their people really well.  They won't hire store managers (for example) from outside.  You have to start out at the lowest level and work your way up.  I know people who have been there 10+ years and swear by it.  They work with college schedules and other jobs too (this lady was also an RN).

Aloha, Elizabeth -- I've been to a Costco two(or maybe three) times in my life as a guest.   It is a pretty amazing place and I recall a couple of televison shows about the store's business practices.   The likelihood of me needing gallons of olive oil or the super jumbo roll of  aluminum foil tells me that while the savings may be significant, it's probably not a good match for me.   As far as wine, I recall they are largest wine retailer in the world...enjoy your bounty.

I had a Costco membership, but switched to BJ's Wholesale Club.  They have the same stuff and the store is much easier to navigate.  And I find I can buy things that aren't in insane quanties.

Thanks to Chris Ann Cleland 's comment, I learned about BJ's, although we buy large quantities of sugar at Costco for our bees.  We have the exec membership, too, and get 5% back. Always fun to look around.

Costco has been our mainstay for years as we buy most of all the entertaining party needs there....and get cash back every year.  Gotta love that!

LOVE that you actually took my advice and got your Costco membership. On the Big Island of Hawaii, that's the place to go. They have a wide variety of local foods all in one place. In the bakery section, get a Lilikoi cake--absolutely to die for! And the seafood, like poke, is fresh. Don't forget to gas up at Cosco! And, no kidding, they gave me (your friend) $10? Life is good...see you soon.

A Costco in Kona?  I can't even imagine it.  The last time I was there, Kona was a small village, and there were absolutely no big box stores.  I'm thinking it was 1988.

Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA I am getting my husband his own card, too. He didn't object either like I though he would.

Michael Jacobs The truth is I will probably never go to the Costco in Sacramento but on Big Island, it carries many things I might need. Plus they sell caskets.

Chris Ann Cleland Well, I have never heard of BJ's and they probably don't have a store like that here, but hey, at least you helped Susan Haughton discover a new place in your area!

Anna Banana Kruchten Oh yes, the party trays. They had containers of mac & cheese, lasagne trays and veggie trays, huge sacks of hot dogs.

Yeah, I need a lilikoi cake like a hole in the head, Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor® but I did drool over it in the display case.

My house, Myrl Jeffcoat wasn't even built yet in 1988. Much has changed. You should come visit. I'll be here until Jan. 3rd, and then I'm off to Maui to party with Hella for a few weeks.

I've been to Costco a few times but never really caught the fever so far.. don't usually need the mass amounts they sell.
