SnowflakeTonight Minot ND is getting hit by our 2nd winter storm of the year and also the 2nd storm with-in a week.Less than

Winter scene

a week ago we received about 20 inches of some very heavy snow. It was back breaking to shovel and the City Street Department still has not completely caught up. It's very hard for them to do their job when cars are parked in the street and it's vary hard for those same cars to get out of the street when they get buried by both the 20" of snow and then the hard bank of snow surrounding the car that the plow left from going around it. 1950Car

My simple tip is that if you can possibly park off street during a winter storm warning do so. Whether you can park off street of not it's also a good idea to be sure your car is NOT facing into the wind.  Tonight's storm is reported to have winds of 30 miles per hour and gusts past 40 miles per hour. That kind of wind will pack snow under your hood so tight when you open your hood you won't even see your engine (which will also be packed with snow inside the engine).

This is very good advice for those facing a winter storm.

We would not know what to do with that much snow in our area.

It was an unusually large amount of snow Roy Kelley . This one is predicted to drop  up to 8" which is plenty in my book.

Good morning Bob.  We are due for our first dusting tomorrow.  Keep all of that snow you want and then some.  Stay inside and keep warm.

I wish it were a dusting for us James Dray . Last week the snow was 20" of very heavy snow. This time it's 8" of very light snow with now 50mph winds (higher than originally thought) and with those winds we are getting some huge drifts. Also last week the temps were around 30 above zero, today the temps with windchill are subzero.

Yes, get it off the street.  Talk to a friend or neighbor if they have space it makes it easier to get the streets clean

Today a guest to one of my neighbors thought it was a great idea to park infront of my house right at the end of my driveway (dispite about 300 feet of open parking space in front of their house. It was hard NOT to bury that car with my snow blower.
