Right on target - and - re-blog!
The beauty of the Rain is that there are MANY different ways to participate.
Some are ALL IN. They blog regularly, they comment (REAL comments, not copy/paste/repeat/rinse/lather repeat), they lend a hand and provide valuable content to the community.
Others come and go. They'll be on fire for a bit with posts and comments, streak across the Rainscape, then abruptly go quiet and MAYBE reappear weeks, months or years later. But their content lives on.
Others never blog, but provide meaningful participation by engaging through comments on posts, or perhaps in the Q&A section.
Others ONLY blog and never participate in any other way, perhaps carpet bombing the blog roll with hundreds of market reports and comments turned off. They might earn the ire of some Rainers, so hopefully they're helping the site SEO.
Others are quiet lurkers, just reading and maybe clicking the Like button every now and then. That's okay, to each their own. A lot of us start as lurkers and graduate to hardcore Rainers over time.
We've got members that have been here since almost Day 1 and know all the ins and outs of the community, and we've got the other end of the spectrum with new members joining every week with a lot to learn. We all started new and some of today's new folks will be future veteran members of the Rain.
We each have the option to be POSITIVE or NEGATIVE contributors to this community.
Frankly the shin kickers who have no respect for others in this community earn the disdain they bring on themselves. Fortunately for this community, NEGATIVE members are rare and the distractions are relatively infrequent. That's just another reason we come back day after day.
