December is a busy month for most of us - shocking I know LOL!! And it's also a good time to look back to see what worked and didn't work this year as well as look forward to 2017. I was happy to see that Larry Johnston created Keeping in Touch (Contest) Searching for New Ways to Stay Connected. It gives us a chance to re-group and share our ideas and thoughts with the AR community. Thanks Larry - lots of good posts already!
Since I've been in the business going on 30 years I've created a planned A LOT of events and promotions for clients. Honestly it's what I love to do so it never seems like work to me (most of the time anyway)! Today I'll share about one event. Some other time I'll write about some of the other events, parties and promotions!
We recently hosted a 10 Year Anniversary (of opening our own firm) Thank You Party for our Clients and Business Associates. We were very pleased with the turn out! In the past we've hosted a lot of events at our home, as we've got a lot of space and the perfect entertaining home and an excellent caterer. But this time we wanted to do something different (with less work involved). A new restaurant "North Mountain Grille" opened up last summer in our neighborhood about 3 miles from our home. We've been there a few times and it's got an 'urban vibe' with a comfy, cozy atmosphere. Both Gary and I thought it would be fantastic if we could 'take over' the restaurant for our client party. We talked to the new owner and she was very excited about the prospect and suggested a Sunday night (since they're not open that night). We decided to have a buffet style event with lots of yummy selections as well as soft and adult beverages. The owner had 2 fantastic 'Banana Cakes' made up as a surprise! And they were a real hit at the party!
We had invitations created and printed up by our favorite local printer and good friend, Susan Wallace of Print and Imprint. The invitations were mailed out and we also followed up with a email blast out of constant contact. RSV-P's started pouring in right away and we were quickly going to fill the place up - yea!
We purchased 10 gift cards to various local restaurants, including the North Mountain Grille for door prizes to give away at the event. And of course the gift cards were into our standard "banana yellow envelopes"!
The evening of the party people started showing up early and Gary and I stayed close to the door to make sure everyone was greeted. A lot of our clients know each other from other events and parties we've hosted so it was natural for them to congregate at tables together. Those that didn't know anyone were asked to join others at their tables - so it worked out great! We had a chance to go around and chat with everyone and sit down once in awhile for a longer conversation. It was a blast!
We wanted to say a few words and thank them all for coming and their continued referrals and business before we handed out the door prizes. This time Gary gave the opening remarks which was a first as I'm the front person for the business! I wanted a chance to say a few words about Gary and let them know how much he 'really does' in the back end of the business and to give him Big Time Kudos! He's an amazing business partner and husband and I'm very grateful to have him in my life!
Everything worked out perfectly without a single hitch! And the restaurant folks did a fantastic job of making the entire evening so seamless and easy for us. I look forward to many more events at the North Mountain Grille! In fact, I've already made arrangements to hold our 'North Valley Business Network' breakfast meetings there twice a month starting in 2017.
