6 Reasons Why Your Goals May Have Failed This Year!

Tonight we will be talking about goals and some of the things that can get in the way of our success.

Goals can have a magical quality, they can elevate you to the top of your profession, they can make you rich, they can help you to so wonderful things for humanity.

But only if you do them right, and most fail to do them right!

A few things that I have learned and observed include failed goals that are…

1. Not Written Down.
Nearly everyone has goals, but only about 3% actually write them down and do it right.

2. Just a Dream List.
A goal is more than a dream list, a goal is a fully fleshed out idea with a deadline and a map to the gold.

3. Lack of Clarity.
Your goals steer your subconscious and a clear well thought-out and drawn out road-map will lead the way.

4. All Talk, No Action.
A declaration is great, but it takes more.  We need a plan, a detailed plan showing who, what, why, where, how, and when.

5. We need a system.
Do we just throw this map in a drawer, no.  We need to have a system for implementing it, a system for keeping it in front of us, a system for putting it into action, and keeping it there.

6. Lack of Support.
We are not a ship adrift in the ocean, we have people around us that we depend on.  It is important to include them in the plan.
Detail how they are going to benefit from the goals and how they are going to help you achieve the goals.
And most importantly, bring them in on the plan, they can cheer you on, they can pick up some of the weight, they can contribute ideas and much more.

Watch out for these potential land mines on your way this year and enjoy the voyage to success!

Just writing goals down can sometimes be the impetus to make us do what is necessary to reach them. Or to get us thinking about what we can do to get there.

I remember about 20 years I was going through a bunch of negative things in my life. I knew I had to focus my attention on what I really wanted in my life. I spent a bit of time writing a detailed list which covered my relationship status, my physical goals, my work goals. I did put the list in a drawer (I know, a "no-no"). Years later I happened to find the list when I was cleaning something out, and out of the 9 or 10 things I had written down, I had already acheived about 90% of them.

Bob all good reasons why goals are not met, but I think #2 and #4 cause the most failures.

Writing down my goals, and even writing down my to do list daily, is the only way anything ever gets done.
