Charlotte, North Carolina has just landed the #9 spot of the 26 hottest food cities in the USA as ranked by Zagat, actually beating out long-time favorites like Charleston (#11); Atlanta (#10); Savannah (#12); New York City (#21); and San Francisco (#20)! In fact, two North Carolina cities made the top 10 list of the hottest food cities in 2016, with Asheville ranked #7. As Zagat put it:

"Once known only as a sports-centric center of commerce, Charlotte has emerged as the new destination for adventurous, landscape-driven cuisine. There’s no shortage of up-and-coming chefs...With dozens more openings anticipated for next year — and plenty of other chefs making the move to Charlotte from big cities like San Francisco and New York — this burgeoning dining scene is only just getting started. "

For those of use who've lived in the Queen City for a while and remember it as a bit of a culinary "wasteland," this is very exciting news putting us on the map with world class cities recognized for their culinary offerings. Dick Greenberg ~ hi Dick.... it's interesting to watch. We have a lot of top medical professionals who moved to Charlotte from major cities because of life-style, which provides us wonderful medical care. Now we are seeing it with chefs who are moving here and to places like Denver from the big cities like NY, San Francisco, etc.

This is a very good example of the quality of life available for families that move to the area.

On top of the good food, the hospitality is the best that can be found anywhere.

How about that. It becomes a destination when food is one of the best features of the city. It's got to be fun to decide where to go to dinner.

Good morning Nina.  If I'm not eating I'm thinking about my next meal.  Which reminds me I haven't had breakfast yet.  Hmm, I wonder what's in the fridge

James Dray ~ good morning, James... well, I doubt any of these top Charlotte restaurants are open for breakfast... but if you get a head start soon, you might make it here for dinner! Reservations?

Debbie Reynolds ~ good morning, Debbie... when Johnson and Wales opened in Charlotte (probably at least 10 years ago now), it helped fuel this growth in culinary demand in the city.

Nina Hollander   having spent almost 40 years of business traveling all over North America. on many a late night or very early morning those roadside eateries have been the existence.   The finer places in the downtown areas were always reserved for longer stays and it was usually the clients that I was visiting that would select them knowing that their charge cards could stay at home.

Ed Silva ~ hi Ed, interestingly, a large number of our top restaurants in Charlotte are not just in the uptown area... they are in the middle of densely populated areas and the clientele is very much local.

I do remember going to an excellent restaurant that was in an older victorian style home maybe a mile or so from what was once the Adam's Mark hotel if that's still there.

Hi Nina Hollander .  A friend and I are starting to plan a trip East for next Fall.  I hope Charlotte is on our menu.      If so, I'll be asking for some tips and recommendations of "must dos and must sees".

Endre Barath, Jr. ~ hi Endre... what is most interesting about this list is how many regional cities like Charlotte, Philadelphia, Denver are popping up and beating out the major ones like NYC and San Francisco.

Endre Barath, Jr. ~ hi Endre... that's a good point about Las Vegas, since it has a plethora of restaurants. Part of what puts cities on this list is the appearance of new hot restaurants onto the scene. I've been to LV three times in the last 12 months and it seems the restaurants never change.

Nina I agree that makes a lot of sense since we have restaurant  openings virtually everyday here in LA. On a side note you inspired me to write about a couple LV restaurants now:))Endre
