The Oaks of Shenandoah neighborhood was developed from 1986-1993. This was the premier area of Coon Rapids at the time and still has a distinctive flare and many mature trees. The Oaks has homes from the $200,000 up to $600,000 price range, all single family homes. There were 10-20 existing homes when the neighborhood was developed that are still there, adding charm and character.

Bunker Hills regional park is a mile east and has some of the best bike and hiking trails around. There is also 27 hole golf course, which hosted the Senior PGA for several years. Coon Rapids Dam on the Mississippi River is another great spot to picnic or enjoy the day. Bike trails cross the dam and go 10-15 miles in most directions. You can ride all the way to downtown Minneapolis from the Dam. There is also a trout lake for the fisherman in the family. Crooked Lake is only a few blocks to the west and makes a great spot for fishing or boating.

Riverdale shopping center is a mile to the west and has many great stores. Andover station has a Target,  grocery store, bowling alley, and a movie theatre within walking distance.

The Oaks are bordered by Hanson Blvd on the East and Coon Creek Blvd on the West. The southern border is County 14 (formerly 242) and the northern border is 133rd Ave, which is the city border with Andover. There are 4-5 parks all of which are located in wildlife areas.

Currently Hanson Blvd. is under construction rebuilding to 4 lanes. This makes access to the Oaks tougher but, should be finished by August 2008. Hanson will then take you to Highway 10 and minutes from either downtown. A new commuter train is scheduled to open in a few years that will connet you to downtown and the Mall of America.

District #11 is the largest district in the state. Schools in the Oaks include Coon Rapids High School, Meadow Creek Christian School along with Sand Creek Elementary and Coon Rapids Junior High schools. Click here to go to the District #11 web site.

Anoka County is just to the north of Minneapolis and is part of the 7 county metro area.
