ARE YOU DOING ENOUGH FOR YOUR BUYERS AND SELLERS?

ARE YOU DOING ENOUGH FOR YOUR BUYERS AND SELLERS?

I have always prided myself on my follow-up and follow-through with my past buyers and sellers. It has paid off big time and it has given me a big opportunity each time I communicate with them--I get more referralls from my buyers and sellers than I get from any other source!

So, I was very surprised when I read my latest newsletter from Realtor.com and saw the following article sourced from "Happy Grasshopper", an email marketing software company. In their survey, they found that nearly half of their respondents said they never heard from the real estate agent who sold their house or sold them a house after a deal was completed. The following is a quote taken from this survey:

The survey, based on responses from 300 homeowners, suggests many real estate pros are leaving future business on the table by failing to follow up with clients. Furthermore, 70 percent of survey respondents say they did "very little" or "some" research before selecting a real estate agent.

"The study shows a large percentage of the market is up for grabs, not only because many homeowners do not have a preferred agent, but also the fact that most homeowners aren’t doing heavy research before hiring one," says Dan Stewart, CEO

and co-founder of Happy Grasshopper.

This is so surprising to me and it appears that it is a common practice to ignore the best source for leads that I can think of!!

One of the reasons I blog here on ActiveRain is to be prepared to inform my former buyers and sellers of local news, events and market data that is so appreciated.

I have created a mailing list from my email adresses with all identified under the heading:

MY BUYERS and SELLERS

This is my template for my own purposes--these names and email addresses are included in all my

most pertinent market report and blog post sharings:

  • Neighborhood events--including my own historical perspective of the area.
  • New shops and restaurants
  • Favorite parks, playgrounds and  Nature Preserves which offer Fun Things To Do for Kids.
  • Home maintainance and repair tips
  • New listings in the area inluding photos
  • Sold properties by location and price point including photos.

This informtion is much appreciated by my client/customer base and they tell me all the time how much they enjoy keeping up on the real estate market where they own a second home!

Hi Paula Hathaway, REALTOR, Sr. LBA, , Ive heard that statistic too.. I always make a point of staying in touch with past clients.. I try to make at least 2 "touches" a month, sometimes more, and send them personal video messages in my email through Bomb Bomb... Since a lot of my business is from refererals it is essential to stay in touch with your database.

Hi Paula, I stay in touch with past clients--about 90% of my business is repeat and referral, so it's imperative.

BUT--I only randomly send out my blog posts to clients, something I should change in 2017.

A big THANK YOU for this post.

Gloria: Twice a month sounds like what I do---then I send out our quarterly reports (Miller Samuel is Douglas Elliman's accountant and they do our market reports for us) each quarter---they are the best!

Lottie: You are more than welcome---I love to send out my blog posts but I must say I do have to be very selective so as not to bore my fellow agents into oblivion...  If they get bored---they just delete!!
