Do Not Vent A Dryer Indoors, Or In This Way

By

Do not vent a dryer vent indoors, or in this way.

And also, never use the white, plastic dryer vent tubing!

The dryer in this house disobeyed all the rules!

The laundry room was on the middle level, venting the dryer through the floor.

Sometimes that means it turns and goes outdoors.

And sometimes it does not.

In this house the dryer vented directly into the unfinished basement.

And apparently had for some time.

But also, the white, plastic venting material terminates into an old nylon stocking!

It's been a while since I have seen this one.

Not only does venting the dryer in this way add enormous amounts of moisture to the house, but using the nylon stocking is an easy and quick clogger which can cause other venting problems with the dryer.  Like overheating!

And the white, plastic tubing is just waiting for some extra heat so it can deteriorate and cause additional danger to the household!

This is an accident waiting to happen.  Most accidents are set ups, so they are waiting to happen!

My recommendation:  with all the resources available today via the computer, why would something this "old school" and urban legendish still be out there?  Why would people vent a dryer in about the worst way it could be vented?  Because they don't know or have not found out.  The old saying that we don't know what we don't know is alive and well.  May I suggest we use the information out there, ask questions, do research, and provide the safest, best way to do things for ourselves?  And read my blogs!  There are thousands of topics covered in my blogs here on Active Rain!

The person who did this probably thought it was a great idea. "Hey, we can just stick this stocking here and the lint won't go all over the place!".... followed by, "Hey, Great idea honey!"

Bad idea, bad.

Stockings were popular 20 and 30 years ago, Kat, and this may be a carry over from that era.

We had a stocking hook up like this when we were kids. It also helped heat the house. We just had to be sure to replace the stocking before it got too full.

Good morning, Jay Markanich well, that's a new one to me.... I guess it could work, if the stocking were replaced every week....

I have seen it many times, Jeff.  The heat, in winter, is really moist, but at least heat.  In summer it is counter-effective.

Barbara - or turned inside out and "cleaned" now and then.  Then some stylish stockings could really give the space a new ambiance!

Sad to think, Jay Markanich that somewhere out there is one unhappy woman walking around with only one stocking.

Good morning Jay. This is absolutely scary. I have seen homes that vent inside and they are crazy.

I just had one recently that discharged in the garage. They told me they didn't want to waste the heat. That's not just heat.... it has a ton of moisture in it!
