Many folks have written about business successes gleaned from blogging, here on ActiveRain and on outside blogs.
I doubt anyone here questions the value of blogging and the potential for business development. Despite the tongue-in-cheek title of my recent post that blogging is a complete waste of time, I am far from a believer in that statement.
Blogging has yielded some of the best, and most consistent, business of my career in real estate. Yesterday was yet another example. Unlike past relocation leads that have emerged from community profiles, market reports, and a broad range of treatises on buying, selling, short sales, and the like, blogging has now opened the door to China, so to speak.
I received a call from a manager in the Los Angeles office of a Chinese company (offices in Beijing and Shanghai) with a request to set up a meeting with a delegation from China to talk about residential real estate and investment opportunities in Southern California.
Seems a post I wrote about a particular residential community came up in their search of the local real estate market, among other things. The delegation is coming to explore investment opportunities in our local residential and investment market, given the devalued dollar versus Chinese currency, a trend many real estate folks are seeing with countries in Asia, and Canada and Russia.
The possibilities, based on my initial conversation, are intriguing, a great learning experience, and potentially lucrative. A letter has been written to formally invite the delegation and visas will be procured, with a planned visit for June or July 2008.
Given that the Chinese language is not my forte, and with no experience (yet) dealing with foreign buyers from China, I decided to partner with someone who has that experience and language capability. Our local Southern California Chapter of the CRS (Council of Residential Specialists) yielded several possibilities, and today we connected and agreed to work together if things develop as expected. More on that later as things evolve.
The lesson? Well, you never know where your blogging might lead and the opportunities that could develop. The potential for learning, expanding one’s practical experience, and crossing international boundaries is highly motivating. The Internet opens doors previously unexplored, and the possibilities are endless.
Imagine where your blogging could take you!
