Tips for Making 2017 Your Best Year Ever!

The year is winding to a close, and with the holiday downtime in full force for our industry, there's no better time to review your 2016 and decide what changes to implement to make 2017 your best year ever! In between all of your holiday festivities, take some time to look over these tips so that you can start the new year off with a bang!

 

1.  Review your year!  Take the time to go through 2016 with a fine toothed comb.  Look at every listing you had throughout the year, and analyze which sold the fastest, what marketing strategy generated the most leads, and where there's room for improvement.  If you had a ton of land listings that sat stagnant for months without a single call, do some research on more effective marketing strategies!  If you seemed to get tons of attention from regular social media postings, ramp those up for the coming year!  The only way to improve in any line of work is to put maximum effort in the things that are working well for you, and bypassing the things that don't.  While this may be time consuming, you will definitely gain valuable insight into your marketing successes and shortcomings, which can only benefit you in the future.

 

2. Review your market!  Don't just stop at what worked for you specifically!  Research the market trends in your area to find out what is working for other agents as well.  Perhaps someone out there has a unique marketing strategy that's put them consistently at the top of the rankings.  While I don't recommend copying someone else's hard earned techniques, it's a great starting point to gain ideas and insights that you can tailor to your niche.  You could also set up a nice end-of-the-year get together for some of the agents in your area with which you're friendly and have a meeting of the minds/brainstorming session where everyone tosses out what worked and didn't work for them and helps one another to formulate new and exciting plans to increase sales in the coming year.  

 

3.  Hit the ground running!  I know it can be tempting to take some time off around the holidays, and quite frankly, everyone deserves a little R&R at the end of a trying year.  But don't let yourself get too complacent!  Even if you spend only an hour or two a day from now until the end of the year making a plan, revamping your marketing techniques, or researching new ways to get those listings out there in front of your buyers, the time will be well spent.  You will enter your year feeling fresh and ready to go!

 

Whether you've had one of the best years of your career or one of the worst, there is always room to grow and improve.  Here's hoping 2017 is the best year yet for us all!
