What to do with holiday guests that are spending a few days? One of the best and most memorable things my kids and I did with my parents for Christmas was to spend time in the kitchen, building our very own Gingerbread House. Everyone was involved, even my Dad who never did KP duty! I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that he served in the Navy.
I'll never forget that evening of fun. All the materials were purchased in advance. After dinner and dishes were done, I turned on Christmas music and invited my family into the kitchen to help build a Gingerbread House. Everyone was surprised and excited!
Everyone participated. That evening, there was no boss in the kitchen. Dad picked up the box and read the directions. Kids started sorting through candy. Mom and dad put down the foundation and up went the walls. I started the frosting and together we built our very own beautiful Gingerbread House.
"Where we love is home -
home that our feet can leave,
but not our hearts" --- Oliver Wendell Homes
Love begins at home. Make the most of the time you have when you have it! I would do more today to make memories with the family members I no longer have. Protect the investment of the home that includes parents, grandparents, spouses, children, relatives and friends. Believe in fairy tales and make dreams come true! Never taken anyone for granted. Home is where you live. Love belongs in the home. These Gingerbread Homes were on display a year ago and they really made me realize how important it is to have a home and a family. The sweetest thing on earth is your home and family.
