Cattle Egret on Kauai
On one of our recent trips to Kauai we stumbled upon a very pleasant, easy and beautiful hike through the 500-acre Wai Koa mahogany plantation in Kilauea, not far from where we were staying in Princeville on the north shore.
We spied this cattle egret sitting at the very top of a tree who didn't seem the least bothered by our presence. He, or she, was apparently surveying the kingdom in search of some tasty morsel.
Jeff you were lucky to be at the right place at the right time to capture that picture.

Hi Debe Maxwell - it was fun to see. There were a number of them on the ground but this was the only one in the tree - what a great vantage point!
George Souto - it was a beautiful walk and seeing this guy in the tree was a treat. We have them here in SoCal although our egrets look a ittle different.

We have cattle egret here on Big Island, too, but we also have what are called "invisible cows." When we were at Mauna Kea Summit yesterday, a little kid held up a bumper sticker that said to be beware of invisible cows, and he said, "What a stupid thing to say." Not really, people hit them all the time.
Jeff, love your cattle egret! Although I was really expected to see a picture of a cow!
