or Jill...or in this case, Angela. I just got an email from Active Rain this morning that Angela had added me as her associate. Now, I don't know Angela, which is surprising since I am in the throes of a deep-seated Active Rain Addiction and gotten a big bump because of my last blogging post. So, I did what I usually do. I looked her up on the last few blogs I'd been haunting and didn't see her in any of the comments, nor in any of my blog entries. In short, nowhere.

Since I'm new to A/R and don't know all of the rules of the road yet, I wondered if this was normal. Do people start adding you as Associates out of the woodwork. What is an Associate anyhow? (I also began to feel really, really guilty as I have been adding associates willy-nilly when I like their comments. I look them up first, but I don't email them. Is this OK?)

Then, I searched for posts regarding adding associates and turned up several and got very confused. http://activerain.com/blogsview/39541/1-th-Associate . (Jaqulyn Richy's excellent summary piece with multiple links) You add Associates to create groups-whaa? What does this mean? I truly feel like my A/R license to drive should be revoked at this point, or at least suspended.  I keep going on with my research and hit a simple one on etiquette: http://activerain.com/blogsview/Add-on-Etiquette-for-Associates?11778 by Kristal Kraft is clean and to the point: networking should always be one to one. Which is so right on! At the end of the day, should we really be playing "Tag, You're It!" to people we haven't even had a conversation with (even virtual!) So, I'm picking up my marbles and going home (not leaving A/R) but leaving the morass we call Associates alone until I get a little deeper into this and figure out just how best to leverage Associates instead of honking off people who don't know me yet.

While I'm flattered that someone is adding me without the benefit of an introduction, I am wondering what the benefit could be, so Angela, if you're reading this, send an email to say hi or something.
