Speechless Sunday: When I Still Believed!

By
Real Estate Agent with RLAH@properties AB95346

There is a hint here that I probably wasn't looking up to check out the fireplace damper.  I'm thinking stockings are hung and still empty, And I am - oh my God!  I'm waiting for Santa to come down the chimney and emerge, all sooty, into our living room!

I was about three when my father took this photo of my brother, Jack, and I.  It was a time when we were so sweet and innocent, and we really knew that Santa was going to come down that chimney - although my parents explained that the jolly guy wouldn't show up until we were fast asleep!

Life is a lot simpler when you're at the phase where you can believe in Santa Clause!

James, maybe you should avoid my posts over Christmas!  Wouldn't was to complicate your life!

Brian, getting sooty would have been incredibly cool at that moment!

Nina, this is the only house we lived in while I was growing up that did, in fact, have a fireplace.  It was after we moved out that the Santa thing got complicated!

Sheila, life was so simple, and we were too simple to understand or appreciate it!

My thoughts always go to my departed parents at this time of year and how wonderful they made Christmas for me as a child.

Joe, me, too.  They also made it great when we were adults!  I miss mine a whole lot.

I believed, but spent my entire childhood looking for the "real" Santa Claus.

Hi Pat - What a wonderful photo! I remember my brother and I worried sick because we didn't have a fireplace for Santa to use.

Dick, when we moved out of this house to a fireplace-less place, it raised some serious questions!  I found a bunch of great pictures taken in that house.

Patricia Kennedy - I'm with Dick Greenberg! I was a frantic child because my parents didn't have a fireplace! There was one Christmas when none of us got presents and I thought if we died we'd all go straight to hell because Santa thought we were all naughty. I didn't learn until later that Santa left all our toys in the car and it was broken into before he could make the delivery.  But I digress, back to your photo story.

I think that is a great photograph and your father was very talented! I could just imagine how exciting it must have been to be the big sister in your house waiting patiently for Santa to come down that chimney. Your baby brother leans in, he's listening to you, waiting for you to tell him with excitement that Santa is coming down the chimney!

Both of you have hair that shines in the light of the camera! The few things on top the mantle tell me it was a simpler life. Oh, how we yearn for those simpler days and time again with our parents as we get older....

I may be late, but I'm a believer is keeping Christmas alive. Therefore, Merry Christmas, Pat and a Happy New Year too!

Joan,  this was taken when my brother still had a little spiral curl on the top of his head - so cute!

Patricia, we kept Christmas alive long after we moved into a fireplace-less house and realized that we shouldn't take the Santa story quite so literally.  That was the year we decided that my father was Santa Clause!
