What to Do with Your Live Christmas Tree

Christmas treeIn Clarksville TN you can bring your not so fresh undecorated Christmas trees to Rotary Park to be used as mulch. The park is located on New Ashland City Rd. where there is a designated place in the parking lot where you can drop them off.

The park trails will benefit from the mulch created that will be spread later this spring. There are lots of trails in Rotary Park if you like a good hike.

Here are some other things you can do with your live Christmas tree:

Place the tree on your property for birds and wildlife to use during bad weather.

Put bird seed and pine cones around it to provide food for the birds. You will enjoy watching them, too.

Use the small branches to shelter the root systems of other shrubs.

The main trunk can be used as a landscape timber for erosion control.

Here are some other ways to use your live Christmas tree, just click here.

Debbie using Christmas Trees for mulch is pretty common, but some of your other suggestions I had not thought of.  Good list.

This is good information to share with area residents. Fortunately, our city picks up trees to be recycled.

Great information Debbie. It's a shame that most just get dumped in the trash. Hopefully more people will explore other options like the ones you propose.

The local cub scout troop will collect them for a fee and they will end up as much for the ton plantings.  All is good a a local group gets a quick fundraiser

This is great information to share. Out my way, the old trees likely get turned into firewood.

Hi George Souto, I particularly like to use branches around landscape and roots.

That is a good option too, Debbie Laity. They make a really nice campfire and put out a lot of heat.

I see them in dumpsters around town and that is disappointing, Debe Maxwell.

You are fortunate to have that kind of service in your area, Roy Kelley. Our city doesn't even furnish trach collection.

In south Louisiana, Christmas trees are used in the marsh to help slow down erosion. It pains me to see Christmas trees thrown on the side of the road. I love all the ideas for root covering and bird sanctuary.
