This blog is a shout out to most of my farming contacts and others in the cattle or cow/calf industry.
I am looking for your thoughts and or input on what you do with bale twine and wrap? Do you remove it prior to grinding or feeding?
This article appears to be on the fence as whether it is better to remove the twine and bale wrap from the bales before feeding. I am sure that is, or would be, a major hassle...but is it a worthwhile duty?
I am not qualified to answer but would like to know, so...What is your take on removing the twine or bale wrap before feeding?
I do know this...I have seen a lot twine laying around the pens or in the fields and it will clog up farming equipment. I know it is supposed to be biodegradable but in what time frame?
If a farmer or feedlot uses a Haybuster type of grinder...does it grind up the twine or wrap enough so that it is indigestible by the cows?
I know one thing for certain...the cost of losing just animal is huge and takes a large number of cattle to make up for the one that was lost and that is not what any farmer wants.
