Still Stranded, 20 Hours After The Storms End in Minot ND

Real estate Help Wanted, Minot ND

20 hours after the end of the storm I'm still stranded at home even though we live near the heart of the City and on a fairly important street. But of course the City got right out there and cleared the entire Roosevelt Park Zoo parking lot... even though it's closed for the winter.

I really don't mind being stranded at home, it's like the vacation I wouldn't take for Christmas but should. I can see another game of Monopoly coming on soon.

The Driveway

According to one news report last night we now have over 40" of snow this year (all in about 3 weeks). That is more than we usually get in a couple of years or more.

Our House 12272016

If we get any more it is going to become a challenge as to where to put it.

122721016 Street View

Because the snow is so blinding it's hard to see how narrow a path we have for a street and the plow made banks about 3-1/2 feet on either side of the path.

WOW Bob, that's too much snow for anyone. Looks beautiful in the pictures though, you can get tons of stuff done around your home though.

It really is beautiful Beth Atalay and to be truthful I've been outside most of the day enjoying it.

Bob,

Wow, that is a lot of snow.  You could always ship it to California and fill up some of the reservoirs.  A

That would be a great idea Ron and Alexandra Seigel as the City of Minot is already saying they are running out of places to put it.

I have been stranded in 14 inches of snow in Oklahoma City so this would be an absolute horror to me.

I got stranded in Oklahoma City a couple of years ago over Christmas Joe Pryor but it was because our plane had trouble and there were no more flights out for the day.

National news reports have told the story about the snows in Minot, North Dakota, Bob!  Stay safe, and stay warm!

I was actually surprised to see that myself Myrl Jeffcoat but we have been hit 3 times this month and it's left us in a mess so I guess that makes the big time news.

Hi Bob -  you more of a White Christmas than you bargained for.  I hope that your snow blower is in top condition.  You might need to get a plow for your car.  Stay warm.

Dec 27, 2016 06:34 PM

The condition of the snow blower does concern me as it's about 20 years old Grant Schneider . I'm hoping it holds up because there is not one for sale in the whole city of Minot at this time.

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm ,  We finally got rid of most of our snow today, but your video is a reminder of what is to come in the next couple of months for us.

Keep warm!

The city of Minot hired outside contractors yesterday and they got to our street last night around 9:30. They did a geat job. No more snow predicted for a week so of course when I got up this morning it was snowing like crazy Larry Johnston

Bob "RealMan" Timm - Even though you and your son managed to do a lot of heavy snow removal, there's still a lot to go. You be safe Bob! Snow removal is hard work - I'm originally from Chicago and I know! I'll be thinking of you and I hope you aren't trapped inside too long.

Dec 28, 2016 01:15 PM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

Patricia Feager the City could not keep up so they hired out and those contractors came to our rescue last night between 9:30 and 10:30. They did a far superior job than the City does so I was free to go to work this morning. Even sticking to Minot's two main streets it was still a little bit of a challenge.

Yikes, Bob, that is a lot of snow. I am glad you are looking at it as a time to relax and spent quality time at home.

Dec 28, 2016 03:12 PM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

Driving is a "white knuckle" experience Debbie Reynolds , home is a good place to be. What should be two lanes is 1-1/2 yet some crazy drivers act like they own the icy road and nearly every intersection is blind due to the height of the snow drifts on the corners.

Minot has been in the national news. Take great care and be safe during this very dangerous time.

Dec 28, 2016 05:38 PM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

Thanks Roy Kelley the biggest danger now is going to be traveling down streets that are not well plowed and banks on each side that prevent you from seeing traffic approaching from either side.

Wow being stranded fo 20+ hours in a snow storm you need a warm fire . . . . hot chocolate . . . . and spring.

Good luck and success.

Lou Ludwig our fireplace is electric but it's still very relaxing to sit in front of it. Hot chocolate is always great and we don't want spring to fast or we will be in for flooding.

If I remember correctly Endre Barath, Jr. there was a year when I was living in the Red River Valley (Fargo ND) where they did actually ship the snow out West because there was no place to put it anymore.

Yikes. It's silly that a zoo parking lot was cleaned, but your roads are not. I wonder if they were planning to dump the snow from where you are into the parking lot?

I hope by now your roads are in better shape!

Dec 29, 2016 03:28 AM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

The zoo parking lot did strike me as crazy Kat Palmiotti . The roads are better but I'd still rate them as "poor" and there are still residential areas that have only a path through them.

Thank you Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor® 40+" in such a short time was to much even for our Northern environment. We have a new Vicar (pastor in training) at out church and he is from the State of Washington. He says that if they had just 4" (4 not 40) they would have to close the State for a month.

Good Morning, Bob "RealMan" Timm - Checking it to see how you're doing. Hope all is well and things are improving with the road conditions, food supply, etc.

Stay safe and well!!!

Dec 29, 2016 08:41 AM
Bob "RealMan" Timm

Thank you Patricia Feager things are pretty close to normal with the exception of very narrow streets and blind intersections due to all the snow. We got out to the grocery store today so all is well there too. I had to stop at the hardware store (took a pump in for a tune up in case spring brings a lot of water to our back yard) and the lack of snow removal equipment was very obvious. I asked about snow blowers and they said there is not one in town (for sale) to be found.
