Starting anew...A much needed do-over.

Starting anew...A much needed do-over.

The year of 2007 was met by an arrogant boss who was in denial, refusing to acknowledge the ever-changing market. It was evident that south was the direction it was going and soon, many who worked in the real estate industry would experience life-changing conditions.

Hailed in brisk times, he blamed me for the lack of traffic coming through the doors of the model homes. I began taking real estate classes and soon passed the test. He found out and let me go. The human resource woman apologized to me based on the circumstances.

Utah is an “employment-at-will” state. An employer can let you go for any reason as long as it doesn't infringe on human rights.

Starting over at 45 years of age in a down market was, at first, daunting until he told me I would not be successful in real estate. That was the fuel needed to look forward toward success, leaving the past and negativity behind where it belonged. Wanda Can became my motto!

I was lucky enough to meet up with an agent with more than 20 years of industry experience. We teamed up. I did all the advertising and marketing and he was the salesman extraordinaire. His style and ease of speak left me impressed more than once. He was also a patient teacher.

Almost 10 years later and I am still loving the real estate process. I had the best year ever, was named Agent of The Year by my brokerage and plan to supersede this year's sales goals in 2017. Glad to have been ousted by the former employer to begin a career determining my own success.

I'm still standing, better than I ever was...

You can when you believe you can  . . . . You believed in yourself . . . . and you believed you could . . . . and you did it.

Good luck and success.

Excuse my wording, but sometimes having a "jerk" like this show up in our lives ends up being a blessing (although in disguise), Wanda Kubat-Nerdin ... so very glad that challenge ended-up being the inspiration and motivation you needed. I'm sure your clients are very happy too ...

Hi Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - people who say it can't be done are constantly being interrupted by those doing it.  You got the greatest motivation from that horrible boss.  Congratulations on your success.

New construction homes are often the first to experience the crunch during a downturn. Of course you were the scapegoat for the lack of sales. So happy it all turned out for the best for you!

An inspirational story that shows we can overcome!  You did not let the negativity of another dig you deeper, but instead you rose above and today you have a success story no one can take from you!  Enjoyed your story.  Happy New Year and to your Success in 2017!

Excellent story! Been there myself and now at 49 venturing into real estate after much personal and professional turmoil. I am actually composing a post about this as well. Keep it up and thanks for the inspiration.

It goes to show once again - often what appears to be bad news turns out to be really good news. And.... sometimes hearing "You can't" is the best inspiration of all.

Did you ever go back and show that old boss how wrong he was?

Wanda Can! I love it - and this story. I'm happy for you that years ago you worked for someone who did not appreciate you. It pushed you into a direction you were meant to go.

In the world of "do-over", the common denominator is the doer. Without that, it all fails...Putting legs on anything guarantees movement. Best to you dear lady

Wanda Kubat-Nerdin don't sell yourself short!!  You mentioned above that "Up was the only direction I could go at that point" and that is not 100% true.  Every day we see people who accept failure and allow themselves to be that doormat you spoke of.  Not you!!  You were like an arrow being drawn back to allow yourself to be shot forward to success.  I'm so happy to "know" you!
