Mediocre Agents seem to have similiar views you might have heard some of these phrases, typical excuses:

    • "NO one is buying now!"
    • "These leads stink!"
    • "I've done everything I can for my business!"
    • "That won't work!"
    • "It's too much work!"

What about ordinary agents?

    • They go with the flow!
    • Do what the rest of the pack does!
    • Believes in customary!
    • They do nothing more than what is expected!

 And then...there they are..the superstars....the successful...the extraordinary agent...

So what is extraordinary... Going beyond what is the usual, regular or customary!

    • To be extraordinary..you have to believe in what you do it must benefit others first and then the money will follow.
    • To be extraordinary...you have to look at adversity as a potential opportunity.
    • To be extraordinary...continually train and evolve to remain extraordinary
    • To be extraordinary...you have to be flexible enough to change with the evertimes in life..and get through it without reacting...doing what all extraordinary people do..and that is take action.
    • To be extraordinary...you have to think outside the box even if the pack doesn't buy into what you are saying and doing!
    • To be extraordinary..You have to believe in yourself and your incredible services.

What is customary is not extraordinary...ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things..  We all have the ability to be extraordinary..are you?

Midori - You are great at spreading the inspirational love!  Great post!  I agree 100%.  Part of being extraordinary is being on top of what your doing, being responsive to your client, doing the needed research on a house they are interested in, doing a thorough CMA for a seller - even if it means previewing homes to make sure you have a good sense of the value and I could go on and on...

Great post, to be successful you have to do things differently in today's market.  Going the extra mile, doing things in new way plus keeping up with the basics.

All the best!

I have never been "mediocre" but I will admit to having a few "ordinary" and "extraordinary" moments. Great observations!

Ordinary people can and do achieve extraordinary things. It is easy to get caught up in the flow of things and forget that what we do, what we say and what we think actually become who and what we are.

Midori, I appreciate this post immensely - makes me think of people who have said I was LUCKY to do as well as I have - they will never know how many nights I was late for dinner, didn't get to do what I wanted or how I shuffled schedules to be everywhere for everyone...they will never achieve much with that attitude...or the ones who decided they will become REALTORS because if Dawn can do it, well, shucks, ANYONE can...they don't know what it takes to make it look easy...thanks for the great post.

Great Post, Midori - Loved your YouTube link.  Being your best translates to success.  Knowing what your true "best" is tougher to figure out and is always changing, growing and evolving.  Thanks for a thought provoking entry....

The ordinary and mediocre can be lumped up in one category.  You are right, it's not possible to be ordinary in this market!

Midori, I found this post to be very inspirational. Being extraordinary is certainly more of a mindset than anything else. Anyone can do if they have determination and don't try to overthink things. Sometimes constant positive action is all it takes. Or so I've heard:)

Midori... Like always, you have great posts.  In todays market I feel you need to be *extraordinary*.. I hope I am in that catagory.  My real estate company is now licensed in Mass as well as Connecticut.  You have to keep pushing the envelope.  All the best to you and everyone that has responded.

I choose not to associate with those that keep saying it is a bad market. The market is different which calls for a different way to do business...Oh yes...we actually have to work the business.

Midori,

great post and so true.  The only way to achieve is to go above and beyond, WOW the customer, but keep all the basics in place for your foundation.

Hi Midori - stay away from the negative and mediocre - that's what I try to do.  They can be so powerful and really infectious, if they are allowed to be that within an office.  I strive to be all you said was exceptional, yet I don't think of myself that way.  I just do what I do, and keep my attitude up there as much as I can.

Great inspirationsl post - just like you are!!  ;)

I like the bullet points you used and the video was very powerful.  Dawn mentioned in her comment about people calling her Lucky.  There's a great quote I heard somewhere: "Luck is where Preparation meets Opportunity."  Successful people create their own "luck."

Midori - lots of sound advice.  I agree with Ann that it is not good to hang around those who are negative and not extraordinary.  I have tried to keep a positive attitude and keep my sense of humor -- it goes a long way.

Midori,

Thanks for the post. I was talking to a few different people today in lead generating and they were asking me how business was going in this lousy market. I told them we've got 3 offers we're working on this week, submitting one and accepting 2 others, working on 2 short sales with the bank, networking lunch with a new homes only realtor tmrw, have clients coming in from out of town this weekend we're showing homes, have an investor call this weekend, etc. They all said how lucky I was to have all that activity going on. I was thinking luck.... Preparedness meeting with opportunity..... it must be luck. ;)

Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing and confirming what a lot of us know.  I hope everyone that read it saw where they fit in!  I always  think "out of the box", have never used a lead generating service, don't take floor time or floor calls, rarely "sit" in the office and I am not a "secret agent".  I'm am always working, even when I'm out to dinner.  I take advantage of networking opportunties all day long.  I am not pushy and I certainly don't shove a card in the face of everyone person I meet.  I generate more GREAT leads than I can handle.  I am generous in my office and refer leads to others.  This will alll come back to me.  I go the extra mile for my clients.  Am I extraordinary????  I guess so and here I thought I was just running my business!!  By the way, I've been in the business a long time and it all starts with a positive attitude  which doesn't cost a dime of marketing $$$.  Good Luck!

Hi Midori,
It's very easy to blame the market and become lazy during a slow market,  Becoming extraordinary is hard work and those willing to do the work will see the benefits.  Thanks for your timely advice and tips.

Help me! Help me!

I want to be extraordinary so bad, but I cannot shake this lazy attitude.

I have convinced myself that the market here in Central Arkansas is bad, loans are almost impossible to get and any negative thing you can think of.

I have got to get a better attitude and soon.

Thanks,

Great post glad I stumbled on it today! Even extraroridnary agents need a booster shot every once in a while. I found this while doing some of my daily reading, some is good, some not so good, maybe informational but not necessarily uplifting. This was great this morning!
