More and more homeowners are enjoying the equity they have in their homes, and remodeling.    We are seeing lots of barn doors, some reclaimed wood, and the two tones cabinets are not as popular as they were a few years ago.     Sadly, wallpaper is making a comeback......    Duane did a great job with his remodel trends - thanks!

The popularity of home remodel shows such as Fixer Upper and Love It or List It
have inspired homeowners to get creative when it's time to update living spaces.
3Rs Construction loves the inspiration too and we have some favorite trends that
were popular this year.

Here's our Top 5 Countdown:

GEOMETRIC PATTERNS

Whether you are using geometric design in flooring, wallpaper, or a kitchen backsplash, this concept is a must if you want to create a modern looking space. The key is not to go overboard by having it everywhere. A single grand statement in the room is perfect for adding interest to a remodel.

RECLAIMED MATERIALS

Here in Salem, Oregon, recycling or upcycling is always on trend. Giving old materials new life and new purpose is a great way to add a unique flair to your remodeled space. Try using old oak flooring as an accent wall in your bedroom, install barn wood as beams in a family room, or repurpose an antique cabinet as a bathroom vanity. Be sure to blend the old with new finishes for a chic look.

CONTRASTING KITCHEN CABINET COLORS

Color is a great way to make a statement in any room and kitchens are no exception. Mixing colored base cabinets with neutral uppers provides a very relaxed and comfortable feeling. Or, consider making your island cabinets a different color. Unless you are naturally a bold and free-stylin’ person, stick with colors that don’t overpower the room. Gray is hot right now and subtle is classy!

SLIDING BARN DOORS

The barn door phenomenon isn’t just about a useful door, but also about the hardware and décor interest it adds to a remodel. They can be installed as doors for a master bathroom, kitchen pantry, room divider, or to cover a hidden office space. The great thing about barn doors is that it can be mixed with our number four pick of reclaimed materials. Old or new, painted or natural, be sure to pick a style that enhances your home remodel.

SHIPLAP

Thanks to Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper, shiplap has grown rapidly in popularity! And why not?! It looks great and can be used in a variety of applications. Once again, use reclaimed materials or purchase new. Shiplap can be plain, painted, shabby chic, or refined. Run the board horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Be creative! Shiplap adds texture and dimension to kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms…any remodeled space! We picked shiplap as our number one favorite because it's versatile and timeless.

Love seeing the trends. We are thinking of adding a barn door for a laundry room. Out of necessity rather than style, but I think it's going to be fun. D
