South Pasadena Rose Parade Float “Never Give Up” Is Close To The Finish Line
There’s been some rain in South Pasadena. Earlier today, I went to once again check out progress for the city of South Pasadena’s float entry in the 128th annual Tournament of Roses Parade. South Pasadena has the oldest self-built float in the parade(and one of only six self-built floats in the parade out of 40 entries this year).
This is an all-volunteer effort by South Pas which is known for its small town appeal despite being approximately six miles from Downtown Los Angeles. This year’s float is entitled “Never Give Up” and is a part of the overall parade theme “Echoes of Success”. As is the custom here, South Pasadena’s entry was chosen as part of a city-wide contest.
As Monday, January 2, 2017 rapidly approaches, activity continues at and near the tent at the South Pasadena War Memorial. This year’s entry(according to the organization’s Facebook fan page) has about 85% or more of the surface area covered with fresh flowers. The other percentage is comprised of dry decorating(bark and seeds). Lots of last minute placement of flowers in vials will ensure that the float will impress hundreds of thousands that will line up along Colorado Boulevard and the world(via television).
Remember the Tournament of Roses has a Never on Sunday policy so this year’s parade will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017.
