After the Movie Office Christmas Party

By
Real Estate Agent with Lyon Real Estate BRE #00697006

I felt like I visited my very own New Year's Eve party after going to the movies in Hawaii yesterday to see Office Christmas Party. It seems like almost every December 31st of my 20's to mid-40's was spent at New Year's Eve parties, waiting for that magical moment of midnight to appear and to smooch with whomever was around.

Spittooey. That just doesn't hold any interest for me anymore. I'll see the same person in the mirror when I wake up that I went to sleep with, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Sitting here on my lanai in Hawaii, watching the sun slowly creep over our house, listening to sounds of exotic island birds calling to each other. You can see more in my personal blog today and read my thoughts at this link: Review of Office Christmas Party in Kona.

Good morning, Elizabeth... and happy new year to you! I totally get it... I can't even remember the last time I was up at midnight on new year's eve. Had a quiet dinner at the home of friends down the street last night, but was home and asleep by 11:30pm!

Good morning and Happy New Year, Elizabeth --- I love movies and I often get accussed of only watching more obscure ones but I did see "Office Christmas Party". Although there are many likable actors in it,  it was two hours(must have been ten previews too of movies that will all not be on my must see list) that I will never get back.

If you're looking for a good movie, I just saw Lion -- I recommend it but don't read anything about it beforehand -- I found most people who go in without knowing anything about  -- enjoy it even more.

I had big plans for New Year's this year, but they kept changing every day. Such as going to see Bill Maher here at the Blaisdell Center. Then my girlfriend got sick and we scratched that. I even thought of hopping a plane to Kailu-Kona to surprise you (and I certainly would have saved you from going to that awful movie) but then my family here dropped like flies with the crud going around. (Why am I still standing?) Finally, throwing all my plans into the wind, my clients from California called me yesterday while I was sipping a smoothie at the Moana Hotel's banyan court bar. They are in Hawaii and want to see luxury condos while they are here. So that's what I was doing last night, setting up appointments. At Midnight, walked out on the balcony to look at all the fabulous (and mostly illegal) fireworks over Honolulu and Waikiki.

What a great photo! I guess John and I are in the same boat as you. We went to my widowed mothers home to spend the day with her. Left there and went to a dinner party and left at 11 p.m. Midnight found us at home by ourselves just enjoying the fact that we were home. It's the best place to be anyway.

I have to say, as much I like some of the folks in that movie, the trailer made me feel they had to stretch the material to evoke interest.  Not a good sign.  Felt l had seen all I needed in the two minute preview.

Nina Hollander Except for my stint with the jigsaw puzzle when I discovered myself out on the lanai with all the geckos at midnight -- who WAS that person?? I am always conked by 9:30 these days. Some partier I am. LOL.

Michael Jacobs Yeah, right, you see the remarkable cast of gifted comics in this movie and you think to yourself, well, how bad can it be?? The only thing worse than being stuck in a closed-caption movie by accident was watching this movie.

Hella Mitschke Rothwell It would have been fun to open my door and find you standing there!! But then I probably would have dragged you to see Office Christmas Party and there would be two of us crying instead of one. Hope we can get together in Lanai or Maui this week. I'm returning to Sacramento on a direct flight from Maui, so won't even be going through Honolulu.

Sussie Sutton I'm planning a super exciting day here in Kailua-Kona. I think I'll do laundry to get ready for my trip to Maui. Tomorrow will be even more thrilling because I am meeting at the house with the "blind lady" who is not blind but sells window coverings.

Chris Ann Cleland Perhaps if I had seen the previews, I would not have gone to see Office Christmas Party and been spared the agony of watching Jason Bateman perform fellatio on an eggnog delivery system in the form of a human statue.

Hi Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents - well, I wouldn't worry about any 'traditions' either if I was sitting on a lanai in Hawaii either!  Sounds like the perfect way to ring in the new year to me!  We did stay up beyond the midnight hour but, I am a night owl and get so much done after 9PM!  LOL

Enjoy your time in Hawaii and here's to your best year yet...2017!

Elizabeth the only tradition we had broken this year was that after 10:30pm the TV was shut off:)) good thing the neighbors set off all the illegal fireworks and I woke up as the cats flew off the couch...then I knew Happy New Year 2017 is here:))Endre

That is so odd.  Just yesterday morning, I was reminiscing about how I use to enjoy New Years Eve parties out, but now enjoy them more at home with my family.  I fed eleven of us last night at my house.  They all went home by 9:30 pm.  I was in bed by 10:00 pm, and kind of remember in a reverie state of mind that fireworks went on outside.  But, perhaps it was only a dream!

Happy New Year, Elizabeth!

Debe Maxwell You and my husband can stay up and work in the wee hours of the morning but not I. People are often astonished to hear that I enjoy 9 to 10 hours of sleep a night. Often in bed by 9 PM and up at 7 AM.

Endre Barath, Jr. Fireworks and home alone cats is why I don't really like to go away over the 4th of July. People don't realize how much fireworks scare the beejesus out of animals. Humans, too. I recall leaping out of bed one year when I was in Vanuatu and in a deep sleep at midnight, just when the fireworks started.  I had forgotten about the fireworks. I thought Efate was exploding.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat thank goodness some of us slow down when we hit a certain age, LOL. I could not imagine partying like I used to anymore. Staying up until dawn, discussing the meaning of life. The meaning of life is to be happy doing what you are doing.
