New Year Blues or All Fired Up?

Have you ever thought about the poor schmucks who wake up the first "work" day of the new year and think....I'm exhausted? Imagine how much harder it is when all you see is the "fresh start" posts and the "just do it" comments.

Whew....I'm tired just thinking about it.

If you are not feeling super-motivated, super-energized or super-organized, this can seem daunting....inviting the tendency to give up, before the New Year even starts.

I get it!

I'm tired too! I am still opening my freezer to see cookies and left-overs I've been too frugal to throw out building ice crystals. We all know that in March, these packages will end up tossed in a flurry of "Spring Cleaning." But today they sit there to make me feel better about not eating them.

So...what's my point?

My point is that the New Year is a psychological fresh start, we all know that. A solid line between the old and the new. Time to wipe the past from our thinking and move into new directions.

Great!

But....don't set yourself up for defeat. You are NOT going to go from no farming, to 7 days a week canvassing the neighborhood. Gradual, sustainable changes can make large impacts on your business. Think of this as the first year of a 5 year plan....and then start regularly adding the new activities and attitudes.

Relax....there is a whole year to go! I'm exhausted just writing about it. Maybe a New Year's nap is in order. :)

Good morning Karen Fiddler, Broker/Owner ,

I'm so glad Kathy Streib featured your post in her "Ah-ha" moments for the week! I love your post! My plan is in place (was written in October 2016) and I'm off to a great start due to steady work on making things happen..not exhausting..just steady working on my plan. Enjoy that nap..I'm going to enjoy a manny-pedi :).

I am not one to set resolutions, or to see New Year's as an all of a sudden time to make changes. I make changes throughout the year as needed, and I find that works best for me. Every morning is a clean slate.

Great advice....take is slow and avoid getting overwhelmed, otherwise you are going to give up.

Hi Karen

There is some great advice here! I love getting back to a bit of a routine afer all the craziness of the holidays. I love it, especially the family time, but it's also nice to get back to a regular sort of schedule but with shifts here and there to keep it interesting.

I think that's right Karen. We have to be realistic otherwise we set ourselves up for failure out of the gate.

January is a toughie! Not only do I want to get some new plans in place, there's all the year-end bookkeeping to do. It does feel a bit exhausting.

January is definitely a tough month-allt hose resolutions already broken-it is a shame to feel such pressure.  So much better to just live with gradual improvements-learning and reinventing all the time.

Excellent advice and post. Too many items on a to do list can seem daunting, but breaking them down into manageable tasks slowly should be great!

After taking the month of Dec off, I'm so ready to dominate Real Estate this year. I have a clear and motivated mindset. I needed that reset and I'm ready to go now, with lots of new and exciting things in the works. Wish you a successful new year!
