Using Drones Means Alerting Neighbors Politely

Knocking on Doors Is a Healthy Welcome in Acknowledgement to Their Privacy in Drone World

drone in RI coastal real estate filming

There is no doubt that in many close North Kingstown RI neighborhoods when the buzzing of a drone begins people immediately come outside or change their walk route to come by you.  Now my drone man has a pilots license, FAA license, drone is registered and is all set by federal regulations.  However, I am the Realtor who has hired him so I should (and I say this with emphasis to all others) let the neighbors know what we are doing before we do it...including the homeowners we are filming.

Common courtesy, respect of others and to stop the calls to the police!  It all fits in especially when a state trooper is visiting her mother right where we are going overhead with the drone too.  It was really cool to relax everyone and heard many thanks for me to let them know what was happening and to make sure they did not have any concerns.  I know we have talked about this privacy thing before but it is worth remembering...respect of others always means more than words.  I am so excited to have two homes that will be coming to market with these great water view vistas that will set them apart to home buyers...especially to those who live in other states who do not know the area.

By the way, I have been thinking about having my sparkly red mini shoes hang from the drone while shooting!

Make drones work for you and your homeowners today well.

I love the idea of hanging your sparkly red shoes from the drone. The shoe company should pay you for the commercial. Have a great 2017.

Good post and it is just courtesy to our neighbors, Ginny Gorman . Question:  Have experienced a measurable increase in your business due specifically to drone use?

Hi Ginny Gorman - This is a great idea. Most of the homes I have with aerial photography have lots of room between the neighbors. But I like the pro-active approach. I had one inquistive neighbor asking a lot of questions while the pilot was flying and that did not go over well with the pilot!  It requires concentration!

Good morning Ginny Gorman ,

I definitely think you should have your red sparkly shoes hanging from the Drone! I agree respect for others when a Drone is flying is common courtesy and a great pro-active approach!

Ginny providing notice to the neighbors is a great idea, and who knows one of them might even be thinking about putting their house on the market and you get the listing.

Being courteous to the neighbores goes without saying.  I recall a conversation with an acquaintance some years back on some of the things he would see while doing his job.  He was a private helicopter pilot and the people he worked for had a corporate facility right on the edge of a very exclusive residential community.  Those people would put up large fences around their pools so their neighbors could not see them sunbathing naturally.  Nothing stopped the copter pilot from hovering overhead however

Hi Ginny Gorman , your neighbors and clients will not be surprised at all that you are respectful of them and others. That's who you are! It's part of what makes you an outstanding REALTOR, not to mention member of society!!

Did anyone ask how much of their property would be included in the video?

While with the size of our lots (most over an acre) I might not "need" to do this when I hire my guy... it is also a very clever way to greet the neighbors and talk about your listing.  Will have to try that.

Idaho is an open carry gun state.  I would be a bit concerned if I gave the neighbors too much time to think about it as they might use my drone for target practice.  If I see people outside nearby, I do tell them what I am doing and why.

A drone enthusiast got his drone shot out of the sky by a neighbor. Always a good idea to coordinate with the neighbor first.
