First Friday in Downtown Raleigh

The Deets: First Friday is a free self-guided tour of downtown's cutting edge cultural hot spots. Local art galleries, art studios, alternative art venues, and museums stay open late the first Friday of every month to welcome thousands of art-seeking enthusiasts downtown. Visit the galleries and listen to live music. Delight in a divine culinary experience and take advantage of the First Friday specials offered by participating restaurants. Look for the First Friday Flags to easily locate participating venues and most importantly, have fun!

When: Friday, January 6th beginning at 6pm.

Where: Various locations in downtown Raleigh.

Skywatch at Jordan Lake

The Deets: Ease into the New Year with an educational skywatching session at the beautiful Jordan Lake that's open to all ages. Join Morehead Planetarium for a skywatching evening where the group hopes to get views of of Venus, the Moon and Mars.

When: Saturday, January 7th from 6-8pm.

Where: Jordan Lake's Ebenezer Church Recreation Area 2582 Beaver Creek Road, Apex, North Carolina 27502.

The Scoop: Check the weather before you go. Skywatching sessions are very informal and family-friendly. Each session is scheduled for two hours, but you can arrive and leave at any time during the session. For more information, visit the event website.


Carolina Quarterly Brew Off

The Deets: Warm up with some good brews at the fourth-annual public tasting competition to crown the winner of the Carolina Quarterly Brew Off for 2016! Commune with the Raleigh beer community, taste all 4 beers that won the quarterly heats, speak with all the brewers, and choose your favorite!

Run for Young 5k

The Deets: Celebrating its tenth year, Christ Episcopal Church of Downtown Raleigh is proud to announce its Run for Young 5K race taking place Sunday, Jan. 8th at 2 p.m. with the addition of a Kids' Fun Run and block party this year. Run For Young is a family-friendly, USATF certified 5K race starting and ending at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 120 E Edenton Street.
