On August 29th 2016...everything changed for those who were wanting to legally fly drones for commercial purposes.
Of course there had been plenty of people doing it without regard to the law, some of whom went to the trouble of applying for and receiving an FAA 333 Exemption, then promptly ignored one of the stipulations in the letter granting the exemption, that if the recipient of the exemption was not a licensed pilot, then they had to have a licensed pilot present as PIC (Pilot In Command) for any commercial drone work.
So, anyone who continues to do commercial drone work under the auspices of a 333 Exemption, without being a licensed pilot, or without ensuring a licensed pilot is present as "Pilot In Command" - you are setting yourself up for a hefty fine!
Why not just get the Part 107 license and be perfectly legal - as long as you are in compliance with the stipulations of the license.
Yes - you will have to learn some things for the test that will rarely (if ever) come up in "real life" (sound familiar anyone?) - but a few hours of study for the test will take care of that.
Anyone interested in more information is welcome to ask me - over the past 5 weeks I have been drinking from a fire hose regarding everything "drone" - so now know just enough to be "dangerous"!!
