Bracing for the storm....

Northern California is finally getting rain, lots of rain, much needed rain, welcome rain. Pre storm skies

(photo credit: Grace K. Afternoon sky above Edgewood County Park)

We're also getting big storm warnings. Yosemite Valley has been closed to all visitors this weekend as the Merced River is expected to flood. Communities in and near San Francisco are distributing sand bags to residents in efforts to keep water out of stores and homes. The pier in Pacifica is closed; coastal bluffs are being watched carefully for signs of collapse.

While intermittent light rain has fallen in San Francisco during the night and morning hours, the wind has now picked up and I can feel the barometic pressure dropping.

This is the calm before the storm. Stay safe everyone!

Lottie Kendall - I can't imagine that this next storm is bigger than the ones we've had earlier this week!  So much snow here with more on the way!  Be safe!

Lotte,

Sounds like the pineapple express is heading your way on its route to Seattle.  It rained all night through the morning here.   It was continuous and noisy at times, and no flood warnings here.  I know that Northern Cal has had much more rain than we have, and the Sierra snow pack is looking good.  A

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - the snow pack has been great; this storm is expected to be a warm one, with snow at and above the 8000' level and rain below. We'll see what happens.

Hi Laura Allen, Lake Tahoe - Truckee Real Estate for Sale www.TahoeLauraLuxuryHomes.com - lots and lots of snow this year; I think skiiers and boarders have been in heaven. This storm is supposed to bring rain under 8000' feet and snow above that. Stay safe!

We're dealing with snow on the east side of he country. Water presents so many more problems than snow though. Stay safe Lottie & I hope we both get less than expected!

Hi, Lottie Kendall - I have never in all my life seen clouds like that. It looks menacing! Be safe. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. We had snow flurries yesterday and the roads were treacherous. The snow is all gone today but it's cold. I hope that storm you're getting passes quickly.

Hi Debe Maxwell and Patricia Feager  - we're still waiting for that monster storm. At 3:30 we took Rachael's Golden Retriever out for a walk, thinking we'd be cutting it short, but no rain came. I guest that's what we do while waiting for the storm that didn't come (yet!)

Hi Grant Schneider - we'll see if the 4-year drought in northern California will officially be declared over after this rainy week. Today's "monster" storm hasn't (yet) materialized. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Lottie Kendall - Good morning! I love that photo of you taking your dog for a walk! Waiting for the storm... if we never heard the weather reports, would we still wait or would we be busy doing something else, like walking the dog, getting fresh air, or simply enjoying the day and being glad we got up in the morning?

I guess every day we need to appreciate the day and count our blessings.

Good morning, Patricia Feager Isn't it interesting how we can get overly pre-occupied with weather reports? One should be aware, but not stop living. I call that photo "Where's Waldo?" (It's a little alley on Russian Hill in SF)

Hello Eva B. Liland with Century 21 Doug Anderson - the storm didn't materialize here in San Francisco yesterday, only light, intermittent rain. But this morning rain is pelting my windows and the trees are dancing in the wind.

Santa Barbara got it, Mammoth Mountain did; maybe you're next?

Wishing you a great day, no matter what the weather.

I'm delighted with the rain we've received this year, Lou Ludwig although it could have been spread out a bit more to avoid some of the flooding that has impacted many communities to the north of SF.
