Understanding a Move to SWFL

From Chicago to New York and California to Canada, there are so many people moving to Southwest Florida. Can you blame them? We have some of the best living in the country at a fraction of the cost. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to find anywhere as affordable as SWFL with matching amenities. Over the past decade, the area has become a paradise that’s hard to compare to anywhere else in the nation.

Of course, with the good, there’s also the not so perfect. As a Realtor, I’m supposed to play up all the good parts. And I do love highlighting them for you. But I also know that where you choose to live is a very personal choice. What’s right for one person might not be right for another … and there’s nothing wrong with that. So, for all of you who are thinking about buying property in Southwest Florida, I’m giving you both sides of the story. This way, when you buy a home here, you’ll know for sure that this area is the one for you.

Living with the Weather

Our weather in Southwest Florida is extremely nice. I can promise you that you’ll never have to shovel snow, not even once. There is nothing like going for a swim a few weeks before Christmas. Or being able to take the grandkids to the park every day of the year. Still, the summers are a bit muggy, though with a cold drink, it really isn’t so bad.

Enjoying a Growing List of Amenities

In terms of outdoor amenities, Southwest Florida is second to none. Sport fishing, jet skiing, backcountry hiking. You name it, and we’ve probably got it. On the other hand, in recent years, our food and art scene has been exploding. It still has room to grow of course, when you compare it to New York or Chicago. But it’s honestly like getting in on the ground floor as things really start to take off. And the shopping is truly spectacular in our area.

Gauging the Economy and the Commutes

Although certain industries still dominate in Southwest Florida, there’s been a recent shift in the past decade. We’re starting to see more and more businesses moving down to our area. However, commutes are still relatively short, especially when compared to places like San Francisco or Los Angeles. In reality, most of our area has amazingly short commutes as well.

Taking the Temperature of the SWFL Real Estate Market

Now, the real estate is one area that seems to be completely full of positives. Property in Southwest Florida remains at affordable prices even as the rest of the country is seeing markets lock people out. Not only that, but with every year it seems that the homes here tick up another notch in value. We also have a large range of home types, from luxury modern to traditional and historic. Probably the only downside is that you’ll wish you had bought sooner!

Wondering about buying a home in Southwest Florida? I’d love to answer all your questions.
