Holy Cow

Dutch Belted Cows in Newport RI

I was on a business trip in New England back in 2014 for CRS and was staying in the Newport RI area for part of that trip (and where I had a wonderful meetup with Ginny Gorman and Karen Hurst ).

I had some spare time one rainy afternoon and decided to tour around Newport, and especially the area of the "mansions" along Ocean and Bellevue Avenues. It was pouring rain and I spied these Dutch Belted "OREO" cows (known as "Lakenvelder" in the Netherlands) in the field and had to jump out with my umbrella and snap a shot!

I always loved the poem Purple Cow but this will require a new poem to be written.

Hi Ginny Gorman

It WAS such a fun time! Hope I will get out there again before too long.

These cows were a first for me, and such a surprise. Very cool looking.

Hope you can come for a visit. Wherever you are here there will be Rainers to greet you and show you around!

Jeff, the couple who bought our very large lakefront home about a year and a half ago, had "Galloways", the same kind of cow on their 100AC farm that they were selling. Adorable, aren't they?! They are quite hardy, I believe, too. Up til then, it was new to me, too. From Scotland, Ireland? Can't recall their origin.

Brian England  - Glad you liked them. i wasn't about to jump over the fence into their field to test out how friendly they were, or not. LOL

I had to look them up since I was not familiar with them Rebecca Gaujot, the Go To Realtor®  - they sure were fun to see.

Not sure Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905  - I would have to research a bit more.

Karen Hurst  - yep, hard to believe. Time flies!

I HAVE seen some multicolored pig Larry Johnston  but they were more spotted, not with a fat belt.
