Respect the ActiveRain Community

 

 

 

We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech, which contains slurs, or the use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality.

 

You never know who is reading your blog . Be respectful of others political beliefs . Your client may be a  member of the democratic or republican party . Here you are spilling slurs about a political canditate you do not like on your blog post . This is a Real Estate blog .Your potitical point of view may have just lost you that  listing .

 

The same with attacking religious groups . If you have prejudice dislikes that may be  harmful and result in unfounded pain to someones feelings this is not the place to express these opinions

 

Free speech has a cost  and somethings are best kept to yourself . Think before you put  something in writing . Who is going to read it and who will take offense .  Are you playing nice in the sand box ?

 

We encourage you to express your feelings in a friendly manner . We can all agree to disagree . That is why there are so many flavors of ice cream . Let us all agree to play nice in the Sand Box but please respect others and their point of view 

 

Let's be careful on how the public views us

Hannah, once you post somethng on the internet it is indelible... and as you said, you never know who is reading it.  Your AR log is not the place to voice your political views and religious views.  Everyone has a right to their opinion, but sometimes it is better to keep them to yourself.

Good morning Hannah.  I voiced my opinion on a political post once and got hammered.  Never again, it was soooo bad I stopped following the person who posted it.  There is another example of posting to groups and that is why I don't post to any groups including those I started.    Play fair, or don't play at all.

 I just did plain respect because it seems so lacking in today's society, but you are correct Free Speech has a cost. I remember a movie star who spouted off and they was stunned people boycotted her movies...

Hannah AR is a community and like any community in order for it to grow those who are a part of it need to respect each other and play nice in the AR sandbox.  Doing that is simple if we comply with the Guidelines.

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert  There was an actor also that slurred a religious group He is just starting to get back into movies again .

George Souto  i totally agree but that is why every year Lynn B. Friedman  has us read and reminds us of the rules . It does not hurt to be reminded and think twice  .

For the most part things are nice in the sandbox. Occasionally, someone gets up on the wrong side of the bed and it shows in their comments. Someone usually calls them out.

Seriously, we are not only being judged by our peers but, the consumer DOES read our comments - why lose that listing or buyer over our determination to be rude to others or judge them by their political beliefs?  Great post, Hannah Williams!
