Our grandson, Connor, has a December birthday and this year we decided to surprise him with a classic wooden, runner sled. Little did we know that record snowfall was on the way this winter in the Pacific Northwest. His mother sent me this photo yesterday to confirm that this is the most used toy in the house of late. We have about a half a foot still on the ground at our home in Camas, Washington. You can see from the photo, Ma Nature has dumped a whole lot more where Connor lives in Bend, Oregon. Children remind us when life gives you snow, get a sled and go play.
I think your timing was just right with that gift. I am sure he will have a blast!

We went on a sledding hill when were there at Christmas. Bernie actually got in some great runs. I didn't have the gear, or I would have happily tried it out too. Next time. :)
Good morning, Debb and Bernie -- a timely and timeless gift. Go, Connor, Go! Stay safe. Have fun.

Yep, safety is a biggie. We have kids using our driveway right now as their sledding hill. We love to watch their fun.
I loved loved loved sledding as a little girl. It was the most fun activity and when you have snow like that, wowie. And of course, whenever I see a classic sled I think "Rosebud"!!!

Yes, you're right William. D
What a thoughtful gift for your beautiful boy and Grandson, Connor! Even though Oregon has been dumped with snow, Conor enjoys every single snowflake and his sled to the fullest! Clearly, you brought him joy that he will remember long into the future!
As he pulls his sled and enjoys his adventures he perseveres with constant determination! Obviously, he takes after his wonderful Grandmother!

Yes Patricia, the kids are having a blast. Here, and in Bend. They are thrilled with this big winter surprise. D
That was an awesome gift idea! This post brought back memories from nearly 40 years ago when I bought my nephew a Flexible Flyer for Christmas. I wonder if I still have that picture...

Glad it jogged a pleasant memory Diana. It may be my grandson's gift, but the entire family is putting miles on it - makes me so happy.
Debb,
What a great present, I remember building sledding hills and then riding down with great abandon. A

You must have had a crystal ball, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD ... which is, of course, a mandatory skill to have if you're going to be a grandparent!
Perfect message contained here for those of us in our industry. Do you know an industry in which you must be able to adapt and "punt" through curve balls and adversity more often than the real estate/mortgage industry???
FEATURED IN BANANATUDE!
CONGRATULATIONS! WELL DONE!

Thank you Gene, I greatly appreciate the feature in one of my favorite groups. And yes, a crystal ball is a handy tool. ;)
Old Fashioned sleds are the best. I still have mine from when I was a kid.

Good for you, I think mine was left in Fairbanks, Alaska. I don't think I'll go look for it. Ha.
Hi Debb when I was a young lad I loved sledding. We even had a toboggan we would load up with kids and have a blast.

And when dressed right, kids don't even THINK about the cold! Growing up in Buffalo, I can attest to that, so long as you hit the bathroom before putting the darned snowsuit on and heading outside!

Hi Debb - being a Bay Area girl, I've done very little sledding, but other snow play like skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing have been delightful. Bend's snowfall looks more like a scene from the Sierra Nevada mountains around Lake Tahoe than I'd expect to see in Bend.

This sled was an ideal gift selection. Don't be surprised if it is still around for Connor's children.

Debb, wow, Bend OR sure did get a lot of snow! No wonder you saw outages. Hope everything is back to normal now.

I moved here from Baltimore in August 2009. February 2010 was the Winter of 100-year-record snowfalls in Baltimore. I didn't dare tell my 5-year-old son - I was convinced he'd walk to an airport if he had to, to get back to his beloved Baltimore and even more beloved snow (and his beloved Ravens, which pains me. Please, Spirit of Pigskin, help him to see the Hawks light.). The mountains out here just weren't the same.

Lauren Williams My husband, Bernie, went to law school in Baltimore and grew up in Maryland. His family members are crazy Raven fans...We visit the area often and I keep my football thoughts to myself. Speaking of that, the Hawks didn't perform too well yesterday. ;)
It is such a crazy small world these days: amazing what airplanes have done. I loved Baltimore, so many wonderful old homes, from the rowhouses to the Grande Dames, all the amazing architecture. I gotta admit though, once that one Raven was arrested for dog-fighting, I could never look at the team again.
Nice gift, and how nice to see a kid out playing in the snow and not stuck inside the house on a cold day.
The first week of the new year of 2018 and things are looking great! Hope the same is true for you.
