The Memory of Martin Luther King, Jr

Today, Monday Jan 16, 2017 is a day of celebration for the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Dr. King was a Baptist minister who's beliefs in equality pushed him to fight on our National stage for equal rights for all.  While he was predominately recognized for the advocating equality for all, in a non violent manner, he was really appealing to the conscience of America to be cognizant of the rights of each individual to be treated equally and to be allowed to live in peace.

The Memory of Martin Luther King, Jr

I remember his non violent approach to the process as a college student in the mid 1960's. It was a turbulent with the demonstrations against the war in Viet Nam; the demonstrations by the radical Black Panther party advocating a less harmonic tone to equality, and the preaching's of Dr. King to give peace a chance.

While his efforts were never finalized by him personally, we have come a long way towards achieving his dream.

There will be memorial services held in his honor, and rightly so. Hopefully generations to come will recognize him as the pioneer he was and it will be at a time when all will look back and be glad that those times no longer exist. That will truly be the culmination of his dream.

I remember the battles he undertook in life as well as the battles of others  after death to get a legacy fulfilled and the proper recognition of a well deserved day of remembrance for those earned triumphs. It's pitiful that the governmental process went on for 32 years before coming to full fruition and another 11 for a memorial to be constructed in his honor. Here via Kathy!

It was a shock when James Earl Ray shot King. It would be 49 years ago in April. I learned Ray died 19 years ago while serving a 99 year term sentence.

The world has changes a lot since.  But recent unrest and demonstrations hints we still have not able to coup with racialism.

Hi Ed

I wish I had seen this last week on MLK Day, but in some ways it's ever better to have read it now. What a wonderful tribute to a very special and memorable human being!
