Jenkins Arboretum

There are those places you drive past often without realizing what you are missing until you stop and visit. Jenkins Arboretum and Gardens is one of those places in Tredyffrin Township. A small gem hidden away off Berwyn Baptist Road and trickling down the hillside to Devon State Road. Sometimes when the day is busy and I need a moment I will stop off here.

Entrance is free. Yes, no charge for this wonderful attraction, which if you have young children will easily tire them out and give you some rest when they fall asleep, after making their way back up the hill to the car. As you wander down the paths making your way down the hill to the pond, you will in the Spring notice the Azaleas and Rhododendrons. Jenkins is famous for breeding them and using native plants, they even have an example, labeled of Poison Ivy so you can learn to identify it.

There is often wildlife around, especially around the pond, and it is a place that can give you a time of solitude and peace, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the shade from the trees.

There is an opportunity in the year to obtain plants from the arboretum that will give some of the wonderful colors you see on the hillside in your own yard, if you can keep the deer away. I hope you enjoy my photos, and take some time to go visit.

We have a tradition of visiting on Mothers' Day when often all the plants are in bloom and everything looks so rich with color.

We have lots of hidden parks and places to enjoy along the Main Line. Using a Main Line Realtor who knows these can add to your lifestyle and the enjoyment you will gain from your new home. Give us a call and let us help you discover those hidden places.

oH, HOW i LOVED THIS! It took me back in time...to living in this area many years ago on Rochambeau Drive in Malvern. The red-winged blackbirds are those that remind me of my childhood in Buffalo...they recently came out to Fishhawk Lake, but I was never able to capture a decent photo and of course cattails! Love those! The turtles...how cute are they? It's funny, at first they looked like mussels and that threw me for a moment.

Thank you!

Sheila Anderson, right now it is very green, but soon those rhododendron and azalea buds will start blooming and it will be a riot of color.
