Just when I thought I had seen and heard most everything imaginable in Real Estate, I showed this home today.  We walked into a property that is a short sale.  These people are looking for investment properties to fix up and rent.  They have cash, no issues, etc.

I had been to this property before and there is some trash left over, tools in the garage, a semi-refinished kitchen, and it look's as though they left in a hurry.  A MacDonald's bag on the table, scattered trash as you usually see when someone leaves in a hurry.

Well, we walk up to the door...the front window's were open a little...good thing...you know, the trash.

OUT of the window, it flew like a flash, threw open the window and ran in a FLASH!!!!Sound's like a Christmas story...out of the window jumped three cat's...I jumped, they jumped and we both looked at each other startled.  Me, trying to be brave said, "Do you want me to go in and see what's going on?"  Husband says, "No, we'll go with you."  "Great," I say, (feeling creapy).

We walk through the door and find about 30 little kittens...geeze...now it's a home for the homeless cat's in the neighborhood...What do you do?  What do you say? When your eye's cannot believe what you are seeing...

It's a cat fiasco...

I didn't know cat's would share a home...let alone a house with other cats...

I didn't know the cat's took over the house.

The stench was horrific...thank goodness the cat's forced the window's open enough that we could somewhat breathe in the home.

Needless to say...the cat's rule the roost.

I'm allergic to cat's so...for me...in an out was the best choice for me...

What do you do when animal's have taken over the home? What do you say to your customers....especially when...as mine are...CAT LOVERS

LOL this is a new one, I have walked in to squirrels nest in a historic home but it was just a couple of squirrels. I would be curios to see what will it sell for.

Well, that smell will probably never be gone unless the sub floors and walls are completely replaced.

That said, it's adventures like this that make real estate interesting every day!

I went into a house once where the lady lived!  Repeat lived!  Full of cats, cat urine, cat feces, cats everywhere!  I got out of there as rapidly as I could without being rude.

It's a good thing they are cat lovers -- you can tell them the house has some tenant and you are sure they would prefer to have the home without tenants and their mess!  (lol)  Seriously, it is going to be difficult to get rid of the odor!

Everyday is an adventure in this business!  It can't be healthy to breathe that air...I would've left as soon as possible.  That'll be a tough sell.

Well there is another good reason for keeping homes secured...

We were touring a home that had a couple of love birds in a cage outside. The cage was hanging on a hook and it appears that a neighbor cat had been able to get the bottom of the cage to fall off. The birds were safe, but staying as high up in the cage as possible. We put the cage back together and placed it in the house and called the listing agent. His clients called us later thanking us for saving their birds.

Very interesting story.  I have yet to experience anything like this.  Thanks for sharing because I should be prepared when showing foreclosed or investment properties that are vacant.

Karen, I sold a house like this 2 years ago to an investor looking to flip it. There were about 20 cats living in the home (with kittens too) but the home was also occupied by an elderly gentleman who was quite ill. He loved cats and took strays into his home but really wasn't well enough to take care of them, except for feeding them. Needless to say, the entire house was their litter box. Can we say stench? After the investor purchased the home, everything was gutted and it turned into a beautiful and smell-less place. Hard to imagine during that first showing.
