The article Phoenix’s orange-shirt ambassadors now tackling homelessness downtown informs the public about how Arizona is reaching out to the homeless in downtown Phoenix. The orange shirt ambassadors are expanding their regular duties, and homeless outreach is now the center of their attention.

They inform the homeless about their options for assistance, and refer them to where they can find everyday necessities such as food, clothing and shelter. A 34 year old man by the name of Alton Rogers arrived at a visitor center looking for help. After the center put him in contact with Spahle who informed Rogers of his options, Rogers said that he had been given this information before, but no one ever directed him to where the service providers were. The team responded by calling him a car, and sending him to the service providers directly.

The team says that they see a lot of homeless people downtown, and this outreach is looking to get them actual help. They start by asking people how they are and if they need help, and the responses are quite varied. Spahle says it’s all about “building that relationship.” To read the full article, click here.
