Ninilchik Alaska BayRealtyAlaska.com

Located halfway between Homer and Soldotna, Ninilchik is the oldest settlement on the Kenai Peninsula and the old village offers a slice of Alaskan history while the more modern community offers merchandise, services and activities including the annual Kenai Peninsula State Fair.  Spectacular beaches and rivers in Ninilchik and north to Clam Gulch provide endless vistas of Cook Inlet and the "Ring of Fire" volcanoes on the other side, plus endless opportunities for fishing, clamming, beachcombing and four-wheeling.

One of the most popular stops is the The Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Russian Orthodox Church This is the most photographed church in Alaska It overlooks the Deep Creek Village. A must see when you are in this area.

Good morning, Debra... I've not been to Alaska, but would love to travel there one day, especially to Ninilchik, if for no other reason but to see this Russian Orthodox Church first-hand. I had an entire course in college on Russian church/icon history and I have a nephew who is a Russian Orthodox priest in Russia.

You know we have a Keanae (a small peninsula) on Maui, which is a very Hawaiian place, and I often wonder if there was a connection there long ago when natives paddled across the oceans and explored different places.  Kenai... Keanae.  It has been prone to tsunami flooding in the past so the only structures that survived were built of stone, but nowadays there are plenty of wooden houses.
