NV, Las Vegas: Stagnant Pools and Mosquitoes

One of the largest problems with foreclosed home in Las Vegas is those with pools that are left to stagnate. It is not only an aesthetic problem but there is also issues with mosquito breading. Mosquito's can carry the West Nile Virus and can be very dangerous to your health. If you have a neighbor who has either abandoned their home or have been foreclosed on and there is a pool involved please call the Vector Control Office. The Southern Nevada Health District's Vector Control office has a mosquito control hotline (759-1633) or on-line mosquito complaint form: www.SouthernNevadaHealthDistrict.org.

Mary: You raise a very good point. Also, I would wonder just who would be responisible for such breeding areas for mosquitos... just in case they happen to cause some harm. Thanks for sharing.

Mary, yikes! As if you don't already have enough problems with abandoned homes on the block! Can you find some other inoffensive critter that eats moquitos? Maybe frogs or bats?

MARY, we can have that same problem. Several years ago I sold a foreclosure with a pool and almost the entire time my clients were going through the transaction there was a copperhead in their swimming around. I think he fell in and couldn't get out and we sure were not going to help.

Mary - Yuck! A friend of mine sold a foreclosure that had a green pool and tons and tons of mosquitoes and the bank wouldn't help. The buyers had to assume that resonsibility. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!
