Tax season is either a great time of year or a huge headache, depending on individual circumstances. Some people are thrilled to get that refund, while others dread the inevitible check they'll have to write to the IRS. Whichever side of the spectrum you fall on, it can be a great time to reconnect with prior customers and showcase your willingness to go above and beyond for them!
How many of your customers last year were first-time buyers? Hopefully you've kept a list or a file handy with the names and contact information for your 2016 customers! If so, take a look and see how many of those clients were first time buyers, or buyers who haven't bought a home in the past 20 years. Chances are, many of these folks are unaware of the ins and outs of writing off home interest, and how to file a homestead exemption.
This is the perfect time to send out an informative mailout! It doesn't take long at all to gather this type of information from various online resources and put together a handy newsletter or checklist to mail out to your past clients! Try to keep the info as short and to the point as possible, and write from the viewpoint of someone who is not in the home industry so that it's easy to understand. While some customers may already know exactly what forms to file and where to get them, the ones that don't will be singing your praises for the surprise help!
Just remember - a happy customer is likely to give you referrals! There is no such thing as too much knowledge, and even those people who have all their ducks in a row will be impressed by your dedication to excellent service and continued relationships!
