Happy Tet! Year of Rooster
January 28th began Asian New Year, also known as Chinese New Year and for Vietnamese, Tet.
People prepare by first cleaning the whole house as well as paying off debts and reconciling and forgiving past hurts.
Some Do's:
Giving red envelopes with new money to children
Decorating festively
Greeting people with "Happy New Year".
Some Don'ts:
Don't wash your hair the first three days or you may wash away good luck
Don't wear all black or all white
Don't give scissors, knives or other sharp objects as New Year gifts.
How do people celebrate Asian New Year?
The main traditional celebrations of the Asian New Year festival include
eating reunion dinner with family
giving red envelopes
lighting firecrackers
buying new clothes and
decorating festively.
Many modern celebrations include watching the CCTV Gala, as well as sending instant message greetings, and cyber money gifts.
Michelle Carr Crowe will be providing happy treats and red envelopes for children this weekend at 7031 Golden Gate Dr. and 5766 W Walbrook Dr., both in San Jose with Cupertino Schools.
