Top Ten ideas to do in the Seattle area for Valentine’s Day

Flowers — Although we tend to think Valentine’s Day is all about roses (with an emphasis on long stem red roses) – my absolute favorite place to shop for flowers is at Pike’s Place Market. The fresh flower vendors there create some of the most gorgeous bouquets – with small bouquets priced at $5 – medium at $10 and large at $15 – a price that can’t be beat anywhere! Better yet, they build them to order right there in front of you. Sure, you can call your local florist hand have flowers delivered, but just think how romantic it would be to show up on your lover’s door step with flowers that you picked out especially for her!

Chocolate — The stores are inundated with heart shaped boxes ornately decorated that come in a multitude of sizes – all filled with chocolate in one form or another and you can find them everywhere. I challenge you to step outside your heart-shaped box and visit some of my favorites, Theo Chocolate in Fremont bringing you “chocolate that will delight your palate, ignite your imagination and inspire you…” or check out Simply Seattle Chocolate Box – just steps from Pike’s Place Market – offering not only a delectable assortment of gourmet chocolates but a full Chocolate Box Experience featuring a morning of chocolate education, factory tour of Theo Chocolate and plenty of sampling from some of Seattle’s most famous chocolatiers.

Romantic Dinner — Hands down the most romantic place for dinner in the Seattle area is Il Bistro in the heart of Pike’s Place Market. While you dine, picture a candle lit restaurant nestled in a cavern in the foothills of Tuscany. Il Bistro is provide with the freshest local Pacific Northwest ingredients, authentically prepared and is has an extensive wine list featuring the best of Italy, the Northwest and California. For Valentine’s Day, Il Bistro is one of the most romantic places to be – with a complimentary red rose for each couple, and to make the atmosphere even more romantic, the Mike Stafford Jazz Trio will be performing live throughout the evening.

Take in a Dinner Show — Teatro Zinzanni is the place to be! Teatro ZinZanni is a big night out unlike any other, a three-hour whirlwind of cirque, comedy and cabaret all served up with a five-course feast designed by celebrated Northwest chef Tom Douglas. An experience any day of the year, but Valentine’s Day was made for Teatro ZinZanni! Treat your sweetheart to an experience not soon forgotten with music and merriment, champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries, and of course Love, Chaos and Dinner… or Brunch!

Jewelry — Always works – especially if it is unique and is crafted by a local artist. TWIST gives you just that! Besides showcasing some of the finest examples of American craft objects, glass, ceramics, and metal, TWIST now has one of the most important collections of jewelry artists found anywhere in the country. TWIST is consistently featured in major national magazines for its outstanding selection of contemporary fashion and art jewelry. And Metropolitan Home has called their Seattle and Portland retail environments “some of the most interesting stores anywhere.”

Romantic GetawayA local favorite is the Salish Lodge and Spa located just 30 minutes east of Seattle, the Salish Lodge & Spa is the quintessential Pacific Northwest retreat for those seeking an authentic and memorable escape from the everyday. It is perched just above and overlooking Snoqualmie Falls – listen to the roar of whitewater tumble over granite cliffs nearly 300 feet into the emerald river canyon below. Breathe in the scent of evergreens and firs. Dine on innovative and indigenous cuisine, savor the serenity of our eucalyptus spa, then drift off to sleep in front of your room’s wood-burning fireplace.

Seattle AquariumTake your sweetheart’s hand and bring her/him to a very special Valentine’s Day event, “Octopus Blind Date.” Witness what happens when sixteen arms, six hearts (three hearts each) and two Giant Pacific Octopuses meet on Valentine’s Day. Aquarium biologists set the mood with decorative hearts, roses and romantic music at the Octopus Exhibit. But it’s up to the octopuses to decide whether or not love is in the water! Then take a leisurely stroll through the Seattle Aquarium, exploring and appreciating the beauty of the under sea world.

Latin and Salsa Dancing Let the sexy dances of Latin America light your romantic fire. Join the Valentine’s Day Dance social at Balorico on Valentine’s Day 6:30pm-8:30pm for $10 per person with a free dance lesson at 6:30pm. Beginner dancers are welcome. Dress up or dress down but the theme is RED. Catering provided by El Pagan Neuyorican Cuisine…drinks available next door at new neighbor Locol!

Gold Class CinemaImagine selecting your tickets on-line and instead of waiting in line for 30 minutes prior to the movie start, relaxing in the lounge while perusing the menu of easy-to-eat comfort food prepared fresh by an in-house chef . You enjoy a drink from the fully stocked bar which includes a varied and extensive selection of wine by the bottle and by the glass, as well as an international selection of beers on tap and by the bottle. You then retreat into your theater where each seat is equipped with a call button to order dinner, drinks and snacks throughout the movie. Sit back and relax while nestled in a blanket and enjoy the comfort of your own pillow. Each theater is spacious, comfortable and intimate with less than 40 luxurious and plush seats per theater. This is the romantic first class experience available at Gold Glass Cinemas.

And last, but not least…#10

exterior7Take a “Dream Home” TourOkay, we realize that this is not the most traditional idea, but we had to at least make the suggestion – after all selling homes is our business. Just think how much fun it would be to imagine what your dream home would look like. Our team at the Knowles Team would love to plan an afternoon private tour of 5 dream homes for you to explore with your sweetheart.

Love your city and there used to be a place we went to in Pike's market called Plas Pigalle. Hope I spelled that right but it is when my wife and I expressed our love for each other when we were dating. We had come to Seatlle for a Van Morrison concert. That was a romantic place and it worked!
